Studien zu Johann Jakob Sprengs Allgemeinem deutschen Glossarium

TRANSitions / Transdisciplinary, Transmedial and Transnational Cultural Studies / Transdisziplinäre, transmediale und transnationale Studien zur Kultu

This volume is a collection of studies on the experience of being ill as represented in a diverse range of literary and film works, offered by Polish scholars with an interest in the combination of medical, cultural and social contexts (disease, illness, sickness). The focus is on narrative strategies that condition the idiomatic styles of writing (about) disease. The analyses also cover extra-individual codes for expressing the experience of illness, arising from cultural orders or literary genres. The contributors examine cultural representations of melancholy, depression, Parkinson's disease and other boundary situations (e.g., mourning or COVID-19 pandemic). With its diversity of study approaches, the book inscribes itself in the widely defined Polish maladic discourse criticism.

Being Ill: Idioms, Registers and Styles

Litterae

Was ist ADHS wirklich?

Marcel Lerch deals with the systematization of joint claims. By returning to the established principles for resolving normative conflicts, he attempts to finally clarify the dogmatic legal relationship between the various regulations on creditor majorities.

Erich Maria Remarque Jahrbuch / Yearbook

This issue was compiled without a specific thematic focus. The contributions deal, among other things, with the motif of loneliness in Remarque's work, his own attempts as an illustrator, and his relationship with Natasha Paley. A comparison of Remarque's anti-war prose with the works of Lewis Grassic Gibbon, the discussion in Osnabrück about the film "All Quiet on the Western Front" around 1930, and the connection between Remarque's novel "All Quiet on the Western Front" and Felix Nussbaum's works from the 1920s in relation to New Objectivity complete the volume. The series of workshop discussions begun in the previous issue continues with the death metal band SCALPTURE.

The studies collected in this volume offer multidisciplinary perspectives on modern Gdäsk. The chapters provide insight into the city's literature and culture, analysing works by leading Polish authors, exploring the complexities of the commemoration of the Jewish presence, as well as illuminating the city's Christian heritage, enshrined in its Bibles and churches. A similar focus on the past and the present marks the studies of the models of education in Gdäsk before the Second World War and after the fall of communism. Finally, linguistic analyses of internet corpora address the issues of the living language spoken in Gdäsk as well as used to describe the city. Collectively, the contributors paint a picture of an open, vibrant and innovative city proud of its multicultural and multilingual past.

In 1532, James V instituted the College of Justice, an incorporated group of expert lawyers and administrators who were to exercise supreme Scottish civil jurisdiction. Why did he decide to do that? This book argues that the scheme was informed by a powerful sense of the role that an incorporated body of expert lawyers might serve in articulating a just law for the realm. The new institution also more fully defined the relationship between the king and his supreme judges, reflecting contemporary European thought. Furthermore, the new College of Justice was meant to have a significant role in connection with the government of the Scottish Catholic Church on the eve of the Reformation. This account of the institution of the College of Justice serves as a case study of the powerful role of lawyers in state formation during the Renaissance. It will also be of interest to those who wish to understand the origins of a court that remains part of the Scottish legal landscape to this day.

This volume launches an interdisciplinary series on transoceanic literary and cultural entanglements, offering readers in-depth insights into the complex interactions between oceans and cultural practices. From a literary and cultural studies standpoint, it reveals how seas function as active spaces of entanglement, migration, memory, environmental crises, and infrastructure. The contributions integrate decolonial, ecological, and epistemological perspectives to understand oceans as multifaceted agents of global history and contemporary realities. Target audiences include researchers and students in literature, cultural, and environmental studies, as well as those interested in transnational and decolonial approaches to globalization and oceanic spaces.

Transatlantische Studien zu Mittelalter und Früher Neuzeit - Transatlantic Studies on Medieval and Early Modern Literature and Culture (TRAST)

This volume challenges traditional views of women's engagement with text in late-medieval convents, moving beyond the idea of passive reception to highlight their active and creative use of writing. It explores diverse literary activities, such as reading aloud, singing, redacting, translating, and authoring. Through detailed case studies, the contributions investigate how factors like historical developments, social shifts, communal life, and personal networks influenced women's access to and interaction with text. The studies emphasise the fluidity of textual transmission and adaptation within convents, demonstrating that women's text use was highly contextualized and dynamic. Ultimately, the volume seeks to diversify our understanding of readership by examining specific social and literary contexts, and questioning the essentialising of gender differences in reading practices.

'Between Autonomy and Juridification: The History of the Creation and Development of the Review Board for Media Harmful to Minors from the German Empire to the Present Day': The study traces the development of repressive youth media protection from the German Empire to the present day. It analyses the origins of the material, ministerial and judicial autonomy of the review boards in the Weimar Republic, demonstrating that the later Juridification of this system under the Basic Law has not eliminated its illiberal tendencies. The author therefore concludes by calling for repressive youth media protection to remain in ministerial autonomy.
