This book examines one of the most important questions in peace research: What leads to enduring peace after civil wars, and what leads to the resurgence of violence? For decades, intrastate conflicts have been the predominant form of armed conflict, and most recent civil wars were conflicts that recurred. The research presented in this book focuses on influenceable factors, first and foremost on the type of civil war termination and on the post-civil war order that is shaped by the distribution of military power between the former warring parties and the scale of political compromise. Moreover, it shows that the peacekeeping environment has a major influence on whether peace endures. The insights provided in this book are relevant for the academic community, and for decision-makers and practitioners involved in civilian or military efforts to establish and preserve peace.

This collection explores the relationship between race, racism, and human rights law. It seeks to illuminate, in particular, how the European Court of Human Rights articulates the category of race, how human rights are experienced (differently) by racial minorities, and whether the European Convention on Human Rights has the tools to recognise and address racial harms. By centring race, it considers how Convention rights would look through the lens of race and ultimately interrogates if human rights law is part of the solution or part of the problem. In pursuing these inquiries, the collection brings together two fields of scholarship that have largely developed independently of each other, namely law and race, and European human rights law. Drawing upon rich expertise from theorists and human rights scholars, it is the first of its kind to systematically analyse race and racism in relation to a wide range of themes in European human rights law, including state violence, terrorism, privacy, protest, migration, hate speech, religion, domestic abuse, reproductive freedom, medicine, education, and climate change.

This book fills a gap in the existing literature by providing a thorough assessment of EU regulations as a source of secondary legislation and their application in all twenty-seven Member States. It also explores that application in neighbouring countries. EU regulations are perceived as the strongest and the most effective sources of EU secondary legislation and it is well-established by the Court of Justice of the European Union that their provisions have vertical and horizontal direct effect. Das Casebook stellt anhand der Leitentscheidungen des Bundesverfassungsgerichts die zentralen und dogmatischen Figuren zu den Grundrechten dar und ordnet sie in ihren rechtlichen Kontext ein. Nach einer kurzen Darstellung des Sachverhalts und der sich hieraus ergebenden rechtlichen Probleme folgen die maßgeblichen Entscheidungsgründe des BVerfG. Die Entscheidung selbst wird sodann in ihren juristischen Kontext (Meinungsstand, bisherige Rechtsprechung usw.) eingeordnet, der Streitstand voll entfaltet und die dazu vertretenen Ansichten prägnant dargestellt. Disaster Studies and Management

This is an open access book that focuses on issues around rivers which feed more than one country at a time, changing their course and flow. It emphasizes the need for more efficient and transparent risk-informed water governance across South Asia with a special focus on river basins in the region. Researchers and practitioners critically examine one or more themes such as—economy, society and culture in transboundary resource sharing: conflict and cooperation, nature of challenges, everyday dynamics and formal and informal responses; contemporary water governance framework in South Asia (reflecting on the issues of justice and rights of riparian communities); transboundary disaster governance and policies that relate to resource management; water governance networks and alliances in South Asia; political economy of communities depended on transboundary rivers; risk-informed planning and governance for transboundary resources management (implications for at-risk populations—like women, youth and children, fisherfolk, indigenous communities); policies and engagement at national level between South Asian countries on risk-informed governance. 

The book acknowledges that policies in South Asia need to deepen their agenda towards just and equitable sharing of water resources across the riparian regions, with an inclusive and people-centred approach of decision-making. For this purpose, it brings forth an understanding of the perspectives of different stakeholders for bridging gaps and facilitating a constructive dialogue for the betterment of the marginalized and vulnerable water-dependent groups. The book is a rich resource for researchers as well as NGOs and policy makers working on issues of water governance, disaster governance, trans-boundary issues, community resilience and so on.

Despite the growing population and significant natural resources of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), economies in that region currently represent only 2% of global GDP. Finished goods are imported to Africa from the US, Europe, China and Japan, while commodities remain the primary export. Addressing this balance must be the primary focus of initiatives to foster economic growth and development across the region in the coming years. However, there is currently a lack of intellectual discourse that incorporates diverse firm-level and institutional-level theories, as well as the stakeholder perspective, to explain the transformation of Sub-Saharan Africa into a production economy. This two-volume edited work brings together scholars of business in Africa and economic transformation to discuss topics including the knowledge economy, inter-regional relations, supply chains, the informal economy, the service sector and more, creating a broad and probing analysis of Africa’s potential for transformation and strategies to achieve it.This first volume explores a multidisciplinary perspective on the transformation of SSA’s economies to production and export orientation, which entail: facilitating SSA’s economic transformation through regional relations; the role of SSA’s informal sector on regional relations and economic transformation; and the recommendations for economic transforming in SSA. He has received several local and international awards for his scholarship. He is the Chair of the International Centre for Policy Research and Industry Linkages (ICePRIL).
 Evans S. Osabuohien
 is a Professor of Economics at Covenant University, Nigeria, and the Founding Chair of DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC). He is the author of five books and over 210 articles. He has consulted for many international agencies such as ACBF, AERC, CODESRIA, IFPRI, J-PAL, UNU-WIDER, UNCTAD, among others. He is a member of many Professional Associations. He is a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (since 2012) and the Swedish Institute (since 2009), among many others. He is also a visiting professor at institutions within and outside Africa.

Hiermit wird der sich gleichsam schrittweise vollziehende Ubergang von einem traditionell standischen oder gar furstlich-absolutistischen zu einem zumeist monarchisch-konstitutionellen System aufgearbeitet, dessen jaher Untergang schlielich in die nationalstaatlich-republikanisch gepragte demokratisch-parlamentarische Staatsform Weimars mundet. Mit dem Gesamtwerk steht dem Fachpublikum eine leicht zugangliche, bislang nicht gekannte Fulle von Dokumenten zur Verfugung, die fur die verfassungsrechtliche Entwicklung Deutschlands und seiner einzelnen Staaten von zentraler Bedeutung waren. Dabei wird groer Wert auf die authentische, d. h. buchstaben- und zeichengetreue Ubernahme der Texte gelegt. Dem jeweiligen Dokumententeil sind in jedem Band "Historische Einfuhrungen" vorangestellt. In diesem Rahmen werden an den einschlagigen Dokumenten orientierte (verfassungs-) rechtliche, zeitlich wie territorial ubergreifende entwicklungsgeschichtliche Darstellungen vorgenommen.
