»Charlemagne as a Legislator of the Saxons | From the Capitularies to the Sachsenspiegel«: The present paper investigates the apparent contradiction between Charlemagne's lifetime activities and his efforts as one of the founders of the legitimation of the Sachsenspiegel. In doing so, not only a possible relationship of Charlemagne's legal provisions with reference to the Saxons and the legal propositions contained in the Sachsenspiegel is examined, but also his position opposite other important ruler figures of German legal history.
