Internal and External UK Company Analysis of SME Market Entry

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,5, Furtwangen University (HFU Business School), language: English, abstract: The subject of this work is to give the reader a detailed overview of the current state of the All-in-One PC market for German consumers. The author questions the public perception of All-in-One PCs in the consumers’ minds. Also, the use and acceptance of touch technology for large screen devices is studied. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how All-in-One PCs can be effectively marketed in an industry that focuses more and more on mobile computing devices. In the first part an introduction to the desktop PC market and touch screen technology is given. Then, the theoretic concepts of strategic marketing and techno-ready marketing are discussed within a hypercompetitive and innovation-driven industry. The research part consists of a thorough market and competitive analysis of the All-in-One PC market in Germany. In addition, a conducted opinion survey provides valuable insights from a consumer perspective. The findings of the research are afterwards evaluated and interpreted. Thereupon, the originally outlined problem is reassessed and recommendations are given to HP Germany, the cooperating company of this thesis, on how to adjust respective marketing activities for technological innovative products. Finally, a market outlook weighs the opportunities and threats that lie ahead for the product category All-in-One PC. The last chapter summarizes the key learnings of this thesis, how it benefits the cooperating company and ends with a brief personal assessment about the topic by the author. The results of the market analysis suggest that HP can improve its brand preference and that people are not aware enough of the product All-in-One PC and its features and benefits. A more educative marketing approach is proposed by adding a 5th P –  for pedagogy – to the traditional marketing mix.

The report adopts three theories of internationalisation, namely the UPPSALA Model, the Eclectic (OLI) Model, and the Network Models, to demonstrate the various aspects of SMEs internationalisation. SMEs often lack the resources and capabilities of larger firms, which makes internationalisation a challenging process. Nevertheless, internationalisation offers significant benefits such as access to new customers and suppliers, increased market share, and opportunities for growth and innovation. 

The case study of the Indian market is employed to explore the various modes of entry, barriers, and motivations that SMEs encounter in this developing economy. By studying these factors, researchers and practitioners can develop strategies to support SMEs in their internationalisation efforts and promote sustainable economic development. SMEs can leverage their resources and capabilities, such as innovative product offerings, cost-efficient production processes, and unique marketing and distribution channels, to gain a competitive advantage and succeed in international markets. Overall, exploring the motivations, barriers, and modes of entry of SMEs within a specific country context is essential for understanding the unique challenges and opportunities that businesses face in different markets and promoting their sustainable growth.</p>

Franchising is a com-mon strategy for entering and growing in markets.

This seminar work is intended to evaluate franchising as a mode of entry. It will outline advantages and disadvantages and aims to give guidelines for companies, with regard to creating and managing a franchise system. Therefore McDonald¿s will be highlighted in order to show how this can be possible. Moreover, this seminar work will make clear in which cases franchising is not the right mode when entering into a new market. Therefore the whole topic will be considered before a more detailed discussion of the fast food sector.</p>

Car2Go and BlaBlaCar are some of those companies that disrupted the traditional mobility market over the last years. Another example is the Chinese bike rental company ¿Mobike¿, which provides users with flexible, on-demand and nearby access to mobility through a large fleet of bicycles that are distributed across the largest cities in China. The company¿s usage of the newest IoT (Internet of Things) technologies and a large amount of funding have resulted in a massive expansion across China, Singapore and just very recently UK in just 1,5 years. It also resulted in a replacement of traditional transport modes, such as the car, as the primary mode of transportation. Thus, one can say that Mobike and its many competitors help to transform Chinese megacities in a less polluted and more liveable area.

All of those mobility disruptors, named before are based on the principle of ¿sharing economy¿. Its most important characteristics are access over ownership and collaborative consumption. Recent social, demographic and political changes in Germany have made mobility schemes based on the ¿sharing economy¿ a potential option to traditional transport modes. As climate change and the resulting need to lower emissions is not only a Chinese issue but a global one, it is only fair to ask whether the business model of Mobike can be applied in the German market. Hence, this paper aims to answer the following question: Is the business model of Mobike applicable in the German market?</p>

The chosen brewery is Glaabsbräu, founded in 1744 and located since in a small town in Hessen, Germany. Glaabsbräu recently went through a modernization process regarding its production, marketing, and products, which makes it a traditional but also a competitive and innovative brewery.

China as a target market was chosen because the task claimed not to thematizes a European country as European beer markets were discussed very detailed in the intensive prominence Erasmus+ program. Moreover, the European beer market is already saturated and aggressively competitive. Whilst the Chinese market, especially the alcohol-free beer and craft beer market is increasing.
