Roman

Grüner Mars

The book offers a didactically elaborated introduction to theoretical fluid mechanics and provides insights into the diversity of its applications in nature and technology. The focus is on aerodynamics for lower flight speeds, which continues to be of high practical value.
In the derivations, emphasis is placed on illustrating the corresponding terms and relationships. The text is primarily aimed at students of university colleges in the mathematical-scientific field who are seeking a bridge to engineering applications. At the same time, it should be useful for engineers who are interested in the derivation of the formulas and backgrounds.
For better comprehensibility, numerous intermediate steps in calculations, which are usually left to the reader, are formulated as problems that are fully recalculated in the solution part. This keeps the presentation useful for both beginners and more experienced readers.

<li>Bridges the gap between theoretical mathematics and application

</li><li>Explains and illustrates the basic terms in detail

</li><li>Provides detailed calculation steps in the solution part

The translation of this book was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content.

Grundschule heute

International Series in Operations Research & Management Science

This book shows how to weld deep learning to the laws that govern heavy-industry assets. Instead of treating sensor readings as detached numbers, the book teaches models to obey conservation of energy, fluid flow, and material stress. The storyline follows three recurring settings—a regional power grid, an offshore drilling head, and a 2000-hectare almond farm—to prove the concept across energy, manufacturing, and agriculture.Readers watch plain neural nets stumble when they predict outputs that break physics, then see PENN correct the error with loss penalties and custom layers that bake in the Navier-Stokes, Hooke, and Fourier equations. In benchmark tests the approach lifts predictive accuracy by up to 30 percent while trimming training energy by two-thirds. Case walk-throughs document a 25 percent cut in turbine downtime, a 50 percent reduction in drilling vibration peaks, and a 15 percent saving in irrigation power.Special features include code snippets ready to paste into PyTorch, side-by-side plots that compare raw and physics-aware outputs, and full-color schematics that trace data from sensor to dashboard. Each chapter ends with a one-page readiness checklist so teams can turn lessons into pilots without stalling in proof-of-concept limbo. A consistent American spelling palette avoids cross-Atlantic edits.By the final page a plant manager, data scientist, or graduate student can design, train, and deploy a model that predicts real-world behavior without ignoring the rules of nature. The payoff is lower energy bills, fewer unplanned shutdowns, and a faster path to net-zero targets—results that speak to both profit and sustainability.&nbsp;

MERKUR / Gegründet 1947 als Deutsche Zeitschrift für europäisches Denken

Im Aufmacher geht die Juristin (und Merkur-Preisträgerin 2022) Samira Akbarian der Frage nach, wie gut - oder eher schlecht - das Konzept der Gnade eigentlich zum deutschen Recht passt. Theorie der kommunikativen Vernunft, Habermas, schön und gut, findet Moritz Rudolph, aber wäre es nicht viel besser, die Welt würde noch viel habermasianischer als Habermas selbst? Erol Borans Lebensgeschichte geht so: "Kreuze eine protestantische Bajuwarin mit einem muselmanischen Einwanderer - und was kommt dabei raus? Ein Jude!" Muss man lesen, um es zu glauben.In der ersten Folge seiner Trump-2.0-Notate lässt Jan-Werner Müller manch Unfassbares seit Amtsantritt des Präsidenten noch einmal Revue passieren und analysiert die Probleme. Über Rechtsextreme, die sich als Anarchofaschisten begreifen und etwas Besseres sein wollen als die faschistische Plebs, schreibt Johannes Geck.Der Historiker Valentin Groebner denkt über das Schreiben nach, das Geschriebenhaben, über gebliebene und verschwundene (Privat)Archive. Um das Erinnern und das Vergessen in einem grundsätzlicheren Sinn geht es bei Martin Sabrow. Mounir Zahran setzt seine Berichte aus Beirut fort. Was es mit dem Hass auf sich hat, ist in einem geisteshistorischen Streifzug von Jens Soentgen zu erfahren. Und Martin Kohlrausch sieht sich beim Blick auf Trump an das Caligula-Buch des Historikers Ludwig Quidde erinnert, der es damals allerdings auf Wilhelm II. abgesehen hatte.&nbsp;

Running a large language model on hardware you control is no longer exotic, but the gap between a model that loads and a service that holds up under load is where most self-hosting efforts stall. This book closes that gap by building the thing, one working system that grows across all fifteen chapters. You begin with an 8B model on a single card, the kind of hardware you can rent for pennies an hour or already own. From there the book adds what real traffic demands: an inference engine chosen on its merits, a control plane that provisions GPUs and tears them down again, a router and queue that decide what runs next, and cache-aware routing that stops a conversation being re-read from scratch on every turn. Part III moves past what one card can hold, placing a 70B deployment across a pool of GPUs selected on the network between them rather than the sum of their memory, and shopping for that capacity across several providers at once. The final part goes to the frontier. You will serve a 753-billion-parameter sparse model on eight rented H200s, then measure what it costs per session as concurrency climbs, and find the point where a larger batch stops making each session cheaper. That result explains how commercial inference providers price what they sell, and it tells you when self-hosting wins and when it does not.Costs are measured rather than estimated throughout. Every figure in the final part is regenerated from a committed data file, and the book says plainly which numbers are measurements and which are predictions. The complete control plane is available as an open-source companion repository, written in Go, so you can run what you read. You Will:<ul><li>Build a working inference control plane in Go that provisions GPUs across providers, deploys engines onto them, routes and queues requests, and reports what it is doing.</li><li>Learn how inference actually consumes a GPU, covering KV cache growth, quantization formats and their real cost, tensor and expert parallelism, and why a fast interconnect matters more than total memory.</li><li>Measure the economics from real runs, working out per-session cost as batch size and context length grow, and identifying the point where self-hosting stops beating a commercial API.</li></ul>This book is for:Backend, systems and platform engineers who want to run LLMs on infrastructure they control. Also useful to infrastructure and DevOps engineers building internal AI platforms, and to technical founders with data-residency or cost constraints that rule out third-party APIs. No machine learning background is assumed. Readers should be comfortable with a systems language such as Go or Python, with containers, and with HTTP APIs.

Design, secure, and operate an enterprise-scale network on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure without first becoming a cloud generalist. The book assumes you already know what a subnet is, that you have configured a route table, and that you have brought up a BGP session at least once. What it
explains is how OCI implements those same ideas, where the OCI construct behaves differently from the equipment you are used to, and what that difference costs you when you get it wrong.
Every chapter is built on the same company. Meridian Logistics is a Rotterdam-based logistics operator that moves from one on-premises data centre to a two-region OCI footprint under PCI-DSS, and you follow that migration from the first Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) through to the final disaster recovery test. Along the way you build hub-and-spoke around a Dynamic Routing Gateway (DRG), connect Rotterdam over Site-to-Site VPN and FastConnect, extend the same DRG to AWS and Azure, run VMware workloads on Oracle Cloud VMware Solution (OCVS) and containers on OKE, and put DNS, load balancing, and a Web Application Firewall (WAF) in front of the customer portal. Every construct is built in the OCI Console, from the OCI CLI, and in Terraform, and every construct is verified before the chapter moves on.
The topology never resets. The same IP scheme and the same four engineers carry from Chapter 1 through to Chapter 27, so what you finish with is one reference architecture you can take into your own tenancy rather than a set of unrelated feature tours. Chapter 20 takes a single customer request and traces it through every plane the book has introduced, including route tables, Security Lists, Network Security Groups, the OCI Firewall, and Zero Trust Packet Routing, and then follows the response back out. Appendix A closes the book with seventy-one reference topologies that you look up by the business problem in the room.
Every chapter includes:
- Architecture explained before any configuration step
- Walkthroughs in the OCI Console, the OCI CLI, and Terraform
- A “Let’s say…” case study taken from the same running company
- A comparison table against the on-premises, AWS, and Azure equivalents
- Verification and troubleshooting steps for everything you build
By the end you will have a complete network design for an enterprise-scale OCI estate, the operational discipline to keep it healthy, and the vocabulary to defend it in a design review.
You Will:
· Build enterprise-grade OCI network architectures in the Console, from the CLI, and in Terraform, and verify each one before you move on
· Connect OCI to your data centre and to other clouds with Site-to-Site VPN, FastConnect, DRG route distributions, and Remote Peering Connections
· Compose Security Lists, Network Security Groups, the OCI Firewall, third-party firewalls, and Zero Trust Packet Routing into one working security posture
· Trace a live packet end to end and measure the network with VCN Flow Logs, OCI Monitoring, and OCI Logging
· Design and rehearse disaster recovery across OCI regions, between on-premises and OCI, and across OCVS and OpenShift
This book is for:
Network engineers, cloud architects, and infrastructure consultants who already understand on-premises networking at CCNA level or above and are now responsible for designing, building, or operating a network inside OCI. No prior cloud experience is assumed.
