This book provides in English the case law of the Colombian Constitutional Court, which has become one of the most creative and important courts of the global south and the world since its creation in 1991. It offers concise and carefully chosen extracts of the Court's most important cases, along with notes and introductory materials to place them in historical and comparative context. The book covers the Court's landmark rights jurisprudence, including the decriminalization of drug possession, the legalization of same-sex marriage, the protection of social rights through broad structural orders such as the ones covering internally displaced persons and the right to health. It also covers the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples to cultural autonomy and to be consulted before economic projects are undertaken on their land, and the rights of victims of the country's long-running internal armed conflict to truth, justice, and reparations. Also provided are the Court's most noteworthy structural cases, particularly its successful attempt to limit the use of states of exception and its substitution of the constitution doctrine, which allows it to strike down amendments that replace rather than amending core principles of the existing constitutional order. The materials focus on the Court's contributions in a comparative perspective, showing how they are exemplary of a range of problems faced by courts around the world and particularly as an example of aggressive judicial review by the courts of the global south. The book, which systematically analyzes private international law rules contained in the Colombian legal system, contributes to the study and knowledge of this legal field, and also has a positive impact on its practical application. In addition, attention is given to the need for a special legislation that not only fits the Colombian reality and takes into consideration the evolution of private international law in Latin America. The book appeals to a worldwide audience. It enables readers to better understand how private law deals with a variety of situations in the Global South. Such situations can be linked to virtually all global phenomena, including at least two: cross-border migration and international trade. Regarding this, Colombia stands out in Latin America because, although it has traditionally been the origin of many migrants, in recent years it has also come to play an important role as a destination and transit country for migrants from different regions. In addition,Colombia’s economic growth has led it to become part of several international trade agreements, for example, with the Andean Community, Venezuela, Mexico, MERCOSUR, Chile, the Northern Triangle, which includes Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, and also with Canada, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the United States, the European Union, South Korea, Costa Rica and the Pacific Alliance, of which Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru are members. All this, while resulting in an increase in situations with foreign elements that must be dealt with by national authorities, makes it unavoidable to know the Colombian private international law to know the legal landscape of the region in relation to global issues that currently must be addressed worldwide. Thus, the book is of interest to students in different countries. They find in it a guide to understand the theory and dogmatics of private international law in Latin America and Colombia. The academic relevance of the book is alsoreflected in its usefulness for scholars working in private international law and comparative law. It allows for an in-depth study of the problems that underly private international law in this part of the Global South. It is structured and written in such a way that it can be used as a textbook in undergraduate and graduate courses in subjects such as comparative law, private international law, international contracts, international trade, and international movement of persons and goods.

El Acuerdo de Paz suscrito por el gobierno colombiano y las FARC en diciembre de 2016 materializa los esfuerzos locales y transnacionales porque el "género cuente" en la transición. Este libro enriquece el panorama académico reconstruyendo y reflexionando sobre lo que el género ha significado para la construcción de la transición, y sobre lo que la transición ha significado para la construcción del feminismo colombiano. Así, el libro hace tres aportes al debate sobre el género en la transición. En primer lugar, el libro proporciona datos recientes de lo que "les ha pasado de verdad" a las mujeres en los procesos de investigación, reparación y judicialización de los crímenes de los que fueron víctimas. En segundo lugar, el libro aporta herramientas teóricas para pensar los desencuentros entre el discurso de la transición, o la transición deseada, y la realidad de la transición para las mujeres. Finalmente, el libro recupera la voz de las mujeres en estos procesos, tanto en cuanto constructoras de las negociaciones, como en cuanto contradictoras, narradoras y productoras. Una cosa es el fracaso de esquemas que finalmente no podemos reivindicar completamente como propios pues siempre representan compromisos entre distintos puntos de vista. Otra cosa distinta es que no estemos intentando transformar las realidades en las que vivimos. Este mismo libro es testimonio de las voces de las mujeres en la academia colombiana. Los equipos de violentólogos colombianos han tenido pocas mujeres en sus filas hasta ahora. Este es un libro escrito en su totalidad por mujeres académicas, profesoras de tiempo completo, trabajando en red para resignificar los relatos masculinos.

These businessmen, economists, community workers, and architects went south with the gospel of the New Deal on their lips, but Latin American realities soon revealed unexpected possibilities within the New Deal itself.
