'Containment of the Right to Choose a Doctor on the Basis of the Principle of Economic Efficiency': The right to free choice of doctor is in tension with the economic efficiency requirement of SGB V. This can be attributed in particular to the fact that general practitioners and specialists can predominantly be consulted directly and treating service providers can always be changed. Against this background, the study examines reform options, in particular the introduction of (comprehensive) referral reservations to control access to care.
