To paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill, never has so much pornography been available to so many people for so little. This is the story of how the online adult industry has plummeted from its lofty heights of the late 1990s, when a savvy Web entrepreneur could charge premium prices to thousands of eager subscribers. It is also the story of how the law has completely failed to keep pace with the technological innovations that boosted and then savaged the online adult industry. It concludes by analysing the social impact of virtually unlimited pornography of every description, available to all ages at the click of a button. Fake News und Hate Speech sind Phänomene, mit denen wir fast tagtäglich konfrontiert sind, sei es im beruflichen, ehrenamtlichen oder privaten Kontext. Die Beiträge bieten Einblicke in das ostbelgische Speak Up! Lab, in dem sich Wissenschaftler*innen, Praktiker*innen und Menschen aus der Zivilgesellschaft mit den Ursachen, Erscheinungsformen und Folgen von Fake News und Hate Speech auseinandergesetzt haben. Offen und authentisch legen sie die Herausforderungen und Erfahrungen aus dem ostbelgischen Speak Up! Lab dar und liefern neue Denkanstöße. Law and Religion in a Global Context

This book is the first study to consider findings from sociology, legal anthropology, ethnology, legal pluralism, comparative law and theology in order to gain a better understanding of the diverse cultures of global Catholicism and the cross-cultural challenges arising from Roman Catholic canon law within the local churches. The author, renowned for her work at the intersection of socio-legal studies and canon law, examines the latter as a distinctive example of a European religious legal system that cuts across the myriad legal cultures of the local churches. In light of findings on legal transfer and legal colonialism, and by examining canon law within the emerging field of social and cultural studies approaches to law, her book sheds light on how canon law is imposed upon and received by the local churches around the world. It analyses the challenges and problems arising from the law’s transcultural claims within these churches. Based on these observations, the study discusses the critical stance of canon law within contemporary Catholicism and the current debates on a synodal reform of the church and its law.&nbsp; The book adopts different perspectives: As a sociological study, it describes the contemporary Eurocentrism of global canon law and the conflicts arising from it. As a theological study, it presents ecclesiological reasons for challenging the hegemony of global legislation. As a study of canon law, it suggests ways in which legislation could permit greater diversity while maintaining the unity of the universal church. By analysing canon law as a specific example of a religious legal order with cross-cultural ambitions and global claims, the book also contributes to the study of transnational law in general by illustrating the typical problems that accompany transnational legal regimes in both secular legal systems and religious groups.

This open access book examines the role played by international, regional, and national legal frameworks in holding corporations operating in the natural resource sector accountable for human rights violations in the Global South.

Influential scholars from across the world address pressing issues concerning the integration of business and human rights standards for better governance of natural resources. They focus particularly on extractive and multinational companies in the Global South and their role in the transition to net zero societies. The book also examines legal mechanisms for corporate accountability under international, human rights and transnational law, using case studies from selected countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

The book reviews proposals for an enforceable legal framework to hold corporations accountable for human rights abuses and environmental damage. It considers initiatives such as the OECD Guidelines on Multinational Enterprises, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the UN's Draft Business and Human Rights Treaty, and the European Union Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.

This book explores multicultural religious interactions in Ancient Central and South Asia. Besides encompassing a vast chronological and geographical range, the themes of this book represent a broad illustration of the current main approaches, methodologies, and perspectives on Ancient Central and South Asia studies, including the establishment of new sacred spaces; the introduction of new rituals, ceremonies, and convivial practices; archaeological evidence for religious interaction, coexistence, and conflict, among others. In this book, archaeologists, historians, art historians, and linguists come together to demonstrate the intensity and complexity of cultural interactions within the religious landscape from the fourth century BCE till the fourth century CE.
