Gender, Justice and Legal Feminism

The edited volume aims at presenting the various forms of stereotyping. As a matter of fact, such logical inclination is not only perpetrated through common sense and public discourse, but also through regulation and various ethical practices. Law and politics, indeed, can have a relevant function in preventing the diffusion of bad and wrong gender stereotypes.

As a matter of fact, such logical inclination is not only perpetrated through common sense and public discourse, but also through regulation and various ethical practices. Law and politics, indeed, can have a relevant function in preventing the diffusion of bad and wrong gender stereotypes.&nbsp;"Stereotypes have been and remain a notion central to feminist/ gender inquiry. This edited volume brings forth original perspectives from a wide range of scholars from multiple and diverse angles. The editors, Condello and Wagner, distinguish between the frameworks of mythos, logos and nomos to show how stereotypes are entrenched in cultural narratives, normative systems and language. Authors in the volume explore how stereotypes influence policy, cultural norms and personal identity causing discrimination and exclusion. The volume aptly underscores the importance of recognizing how race, class, ethnicity, religion amongst other identities intersect with power and play out in areas like the media, education and law.&nbsp; The various chapters reflect on the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to make sense of the persistence of stereotypes. The focus falls for example on gender stereotypes in the city; in textbooks, in criminal law, in the Bildungsroman and in various religious settings.The volume will be an essential read for anyone concerned about the world as it is trying to make sense of the pervasiveness and endurance of gender injustice. Judith Butler, in her latest work invokes the idea of ‘phantasm’ to illustrate how conservatives and reactionaries from various places have created fears to justify censorship, discrimination and injustice. Law and Religion in a Global Context

This book is the first study to consider findings from sociology, legal anthropology, ethnology, legal pluralism, comparative law and theology in order to gain a better understanding of the diverse cultures of global Catholicism and the cross-cultural challenges arising from Roman Catholic canon law within the local churches. The author, renowned for her work at the intersection of socio-legal studies and canon law, examines the latter as a distinctive example of a European religious legal system that cuts across the myriad legal cultures of the local churches. In light of findings on legal transfer and legal colonialism, and by examining canon law within the emerging field of social and cultural studies approaches to law, her book sheds light on how canon law is imposed upon and received by the local churches around the world. It analyses the challenges and problems arising from the law’s transcultural claims within these churches. Based on these observations, the study discusses the critical stance of canon law within contemporary Catholicism and the current debates on a synodal reform of the church and its law.&nbsp; The book adopts different perspectives: As a sociological study, it describes the contemporary Eurocentrism of global canon law and the conflicts arising from it. As a theological study, it presents ecclesiological reasons for challenging the hegemony of global legislation. As a study of canon law, it suggests ways in which legislation could permit greater diversity while maintaining the unity of the universal church. By analysing canon law as a specific example of a religious legal order with cross-cultural ambitions and global claims, the book also contributes to the study of transnational law in general by illustrating the typical problems that accompany transnational legal regimes in both secular legal systems and religious groups.

She investigates Mathematics&nbsp;in its conceptual relation to Western understandings of the Rational and the Human, and proposes possibilities of subverting Western Mathematics&nbsp;and of forming different mathematical practices. To engage in decolonial-feminist re-writings of the Rational and the Human requires to re-write mathematical practice too. This study seeks to inspire such practices of re-writing thinking and being - in the realm of the mathematical and beyond.

New Frontiers in Regional Science: Asian Perspectives

The primary objective of this book is to address a formal representation of household economy in welfare economics in spatial terms. Although it has been argued since the nineteenth century that in exploring a reasonable indicator to measure the real welfare level of households, several difficulties remain to be faced in economic theory. The most relevant method in this specific topic is social welfare function. While various types of indicators were historically developed and improved as a replacement of existing economic growth indicators such as GDP and GRP using social welfare function, there still is a problem with evaluating the individual's utility as an aggregate term. As an alternative method of measuring the real welfare level of households, location theory may be a possibility for solving some potentially problematic issues. To be precise, location theory requires the inclusion of notions of transportation costs, spatially constrained internal and external economies, and other distance-related variables. From the standpoint of equality, this specific approach enables an analysis to investigate spatial differentiation. In other words, spatial differentiation of households can be interpreted as spatial consumer exclusion. Hence, the real welfare level of households can be measured by means of the accessibility of goods and services, of which there are several types, such as essential and luxury ones. As a result, spatial distribution of goods and services depending on their types can be considered a component of social welfare function. The topics addressed in the book include social welfare function in spatial terms, location theory related to firms and households, attractiveness of regions, economic and social infrastructure elements, and sustainable growth and development of regions.

Navigating the Legal Landscapes of Modern Slavery and Immigration

This collection explores the relationship between race, racism, and human rights law. It seeks to illuminate, in particular, how the European Court of Human Rights articulates the category of race, how human rights are experienced (differently) by racial minorities, and whether the European Convention on Human Rights has the tools to recognise and address racial harms. By centring race, it considers how Convention rights would look through the lens of race and ultimately interrogates if human rights law is part of the solution or part of the problem. In pursuing these inquiries, the collection brings together two fields of scholarship that have largely developed independently of each other, namely law and race, and European human rights law. Drawing upon rich expertise from theorists and human rights scholars, it is the first of its kind to systematically analyse race and racism in relation to a wide range of themes in European human rights law, including state violence, terrorism, privacy, protest, migration, hate speech, religion, domestic abuse, reproductive freedom, medicine, education, and climate change.
