Democracy and Artificial Intelligence

Opportunities and Challenges for Political Regimes

This volume investigates the relationship between AI and democracy. Bringing together leading scholars from around the world, it assesses the challenges and opportunities that have emerged with the increasing adoption of AI tools for the functioning of democratic regimes, the ways in which AI has the potential to alter traditional political practices, and whether it could replace democracy as a method of political decision-making altogether. Attention is also given to the ways in which AI has transformed public policymaking, the ways in which new technologies have been developed and are regulated, and whether they will serve to transform or reinforce existing inequalities around the world. The book will appeal to all those interested in democratic studies, public administration, governance, and AI.
