This book extends the literature on multidimensional poverty/deprivation by providing insights into the well-being of the US population. Written for policymakers, researchers, economists, and others studying poverty, this resource documents multidimensional deprivation in the US, examines variation in its incidence and intensity across demographic cohorts and geographic locales, and considers the corresponding implications for the American social contract.Multidimensional deprivation is chronicled using data extracted from the 2008–2023 American Community Survey Public Use Microdata surveys (ACS-PUMS). The extensive data, which includes information for nearly 48 million individuals, enables a thorough exploration of multidimensional deprivation in the US, serving as a valuable complement to the official income-based measures of poverty.&nbsp;&nbsp;Roger White

Das Fachbuch verknüpft die Diskussion virtueller Währungen mit möglichen Auswirkungen von Bitcoin und Co. auf Zentralbankpolitik. Es richtet sich sowohl an Wissenschaftler, Experten und Praktiker als auch an interessierte Laien. Im ersten Teil bietet es einen Überblick über Geld, Geldtheorien und die Funktionsweise des konventionellen Geldsystems sowie seine aktuellen Probleme und Herausforderungen. Zu letzteren zählen insbesondere virtuelle Währungen, allen voran Bitcoin. Der zweite Teil des Buches widmet sich daher zunächst ausführlich ihrer Abgrenzung zu Fiatgeld, ihren Nutzern und Regulierungsfragen. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt schließlich auf der Bedeutung virtueller Währungen für Zentralbanken im Hinblick auf Auswirkungen auf den Geldmarkt und weitere relevante Politikfelder. Hier werden mögliche Reaktionen der Zentralbanken diskutiert und ob virtuelle Währungen eine ernstzunehmende Gefahr für das Geldschöpfungsmonopol sowie eine tatsächliche Konkurrenz im Geldsystem darstellen. This book analyses the extent to which the common law can accommodate the new issues arising from the AI revolution, and where legislation may instead be necessary. In doing so, the book takes into account not only doctrinal principles but also conceptual and theoretical foundations of common law. Over the next few decades, the use of AI in commercial and other transactions is likely to be one of the most disruptive influences ever to affect private law. Its impact will be wide and deep, affecting not simply the traditional areas of contract and tort but also agency, trusts, fiduciary relations and a great deal besides. The common law is known to be extremely flexible, and to some extent rules can be organically stretched and manipulated to respond to disruption of this kind. This book focuses on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, using nationally representative datasets from the China Rural Household Panel Survey and China Labor-force Dynamics Survey to reveal the temporal and spatial evolution of cropland abandonment in rural China, and systematically examines the underlying drivers and governance strategies of farmers' cropland abandonment.
More specifically, this book creatively uses "People-Land-Money-Rights" as an analytical clue, and comprehensively employs modern econometric methods such as panel Tobit model, staggered DID model, and panel fixed-effect model to empirically investigate the impact of off-farm employment, land fragmentation, agricultural comparative return, and tenure insecurity on farmers' cropland abandonment. Based on these, this book also further explores the role of new agricultural business entities, farmland water conservancy projects, agricultural subsidy reform, and land tenure reform in curbing cropland abandonment. This book highlights the urgent need to address cropland abandonment and provides valuable insights into land protection in the context of food security and sustainable agriculture.
