Advances In Research On Islamic Economics And Finance

The current state of dissatisfaction with economic issues are not due to primarily economic reasons, but instead, on how whole societies and communities have come to revolve only around the individual's well-being. Islamic Perspectives on a Moral Approach to Economics provides an overview of how followers of Islam think, earn, and treat others with whom they are doing business, and analyses how the moral climate is key for doing business in the Islamic economy and market. The book also discusses the concept of a moral market against that of the Islamic moral market, its advantages over the conventional market and moral market, and analyses its role in redistributive justice. Islamic Perspectives on a Moral Approach to Economics is a new and novel contribution to the global debate on how moral values and religion can increase behavior that reduce the state of selfishness currently prevalent in economic affairs.

This is the first comprehensive analysis of Southeast Asian globalization and development since 1870. Interpreting over 150 years of Southeast Asian economic history, Gregg Huff traces the impact of a first period of globalisation from the 1870s to 1929, the effects of Japanese occupation during World War II and its aftermath, and a second wave of globalisation since the late 1960s. He uses vent-for-surplus, dual economy and plural society concepts and argues that the response of those in Southeast Asia to periods of transport revolutions, innovation and opportunity in the world economy translated into rapid export-led growth. Recent swift growth enabled Southeast Asia to start to 'catch up' with the world's leading countries for the first time in its history. Achievements include industrialization, genuine social progress and numerous large urban regions. Nevertheless, the book contends that Southeast Asian development in its 'miracle economies' remains incomplete.

How have the main traditions of political economy understood the notion of economic and political crisis? To answer this question, Peter Burnham returns to the primary writings of the pre-classical, classical and neoclassical traditions to explore how thinkers from the mercantalists to Habermas and Streeck have theorised the concept of crisis and how these theories can be used to interpret crisis in contemporary capitalism. Political Economy and Crisis provides an accessible and comprehensive exposition of the main traditions of political economy and an assessment of their competing approaches to understanding and defining capitalism. It reveals the extent to which crisis can be viewed as beneficial or problematical, exogenous or endogenous, a crisis in capitalism, or a crisis of capitalism. Das vergangene viertel Jahrhundert hat gezeigt, dass sich die wirtschaftliche Lage Chinas extrem gewandelt hat. Die Wirtschaft ist in einem raschen Prozess enorm gewachsen. Eine zu schnelle wirtschaftliche Veränderung führt zwar zu mehr Wohlstand sowie zu mehr politischen und gesellschaftlichen Freiheiten für die Bevölkerungsmehrheit, bringt aber auch gravierende soziale und politische Konsequenzen mit sich: Soziale Destabilisierung und Ordnungsverlust sind im heutigen China vorzufinden.1 Diese sind u.a. durch die Umformulierung der Wirtschaftsethik im Rahmen der Wirtschaftsreformen nach 1978 und das daraus resultierende Anwachsen von Korruption verursacht. Im Zusammenhang mit der Korruption sind auch soziale Netzwerke (Guanxi-Netzwerke) in China als Folge sozialer Unsicherheit (Netzwerke geben den Betroffenen Sicherheit) als weitere Ursache anzusehen, wenn Guanxi-Netzwerke als illegale Austauschbeziehungen verstanden werden, weil sie auf die Erzielung von Macht und privaten Vorteilen abstellt. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es die soziökonomischen Faktoren Chinas (Wirtschaftsethik und Soziales Kapital bzw. Guanxi-Netzwerke) vorzustellen und die Einflussmöglichkeit dieser Faktoren im Kontext mit der Korruption auf die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit hin zu untersuchen. Dafür ist es sinnvoll, empirische Studien heranzuziehen.
