This book presents a positive account of state aid law at the EU, UK, and global levels, and provides the keys to understanding how it is adjusting to emerging realities. Industrial policy, decarbonisation, de-risking of supply chains: the regulation of subsidies is at the forefront of the transformations that the world economy is undergoing. The book provides an overview of the foundations of EU State aid law, one of the most dynamic areas of EU law. An up-to-date and accessible framework explains the core conditions underpinning the notion of State aid - including advantage and selectivity. The book also covers how the EU model has changed over the past decade. It helps navigate the complex case law on the application of EU State aid law to tax rulings concluded with large multinationals (such as the Apple saga) as well as the perma-crisis of the regime since the COVID pandemic. This Element critically examines the claim that United States economic sanctions on Venezuela constituted 'collective punishment' of the Venezuelan population, contributing significantly to the country's economic collapse and humanitarian crisis. Through comprehensive analysis of economic, developmental, and welfare indicators from 2013 to 2023, it demonstrates that the bulk of Venezuela's economic devastation - including 52 percent of GDP losses and 98 percent of import declines - largely occurred before financial sanctions were imposed in August 2017. Key welfare indicators such as infant mortality, undernourishment, and life expectancy had deteriorated substantially by 2017 and subsequently stabilized or improved following sanctions implementation, contradicting narratives that attribute Venezuela's collapse primarily to external economic pressure. The Element provides a timeline of Venezuelan economic and political events around sanctions and a critical review of the literature on their economic effects. While some state and local governments have stepped in to fill this void, others have declined to set any minimum wage standard at all. Traversing more than 100 years of history, Raising the Floor examines how interest groups have navigated the highly decentralized American political system to shape the development of federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Title 40 presents regulations governing care of the environment from the 14 subchapters of Chapter I and from the provisions regarding the Council on Environmental Quality found in Chapter V. Programs addressing air, water, pesticides, radiation protection, and noise abatement are included. Practices for waste and toxic materials disposal and clean-up are also prescribed. Additions and revisions to this section of the code are posted annually by July. Publication follows within six months.
