Um diese Frage zu beantworten, befasst sich die Autorin in ihrer Arbeit mit dem Recht Hongkongs, Singapurs und der Volksrepublik China als Gegenpol zum Recht westlicher Staaten und überprüft diese anhand eines methodologischen Ansatzes, der von Christine Osterloh-Konrad in der Arbeit "Die Steuerumgehung" entwickelt wurde. This book explores why inflation surged globally in the 2020s, where we are heading and what lessons we can draw from it. Following a decade of too-low inflation, inflation suddenly surged in 2021-22 to its highest levels in 40 years in the US and Europe. The book introduces a simple economic framework and adopts a global perspective to compare the inflation experiences across the US, Europe, and Asia. Among the key questions the authors tackle is 1) why the West suddenly experienced surging inflation when their central banks had been fighting too-low inflation in the 2010s, 2) why so few economists saw the inflation resurgence coming, and 3) why China now faces deflation.


The great inflation resurgence has taught us several key lessons, namely that inflation is a global phenomenon with local characteristics, that economists should rely more on broad economic thinking, and less on models when large shocks occur, and finally that fiscal policy is a major differentiator. The authors, a central banker and an economist on the 'buy side', offer key lessons for both central banks and financial markets while anticipating where inflation might be headed.

Yet recent experience—including the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2008 and the economic development of China—contradicts this basic prediction. This book presents the answers to the exercises in Macroeconomic Theory, Fluctuations, Inflation and Growth in Closed and Open Economies, 2nd Edition, by Fernando de Holanda Barbosa (Cham, Switzerland: Springer, 2024), hereafter referred as Macro Theory.


Altogether, there are 170 exercises in eleven chapters and three appendices. Many of these exercises are based on, or inspired in, the literature listed in the bibliography of Macro Theory, although the sources are not documented. The goal of a good number of exercises is to help the student to develop the skills necessary to obtain the model's empirically testable predictions. You should try to solve each exercise by yourself but do not be upset if you cannot. Some exercises are very hard and take time to work out. However, to learn, you should persevere and try again and again. We hope that this workbook will help you in the learning process of macroeconomic theory.


The most important change in this second edition is Part IV, which presents an abridged survey of the empirical evidence on macroeconomic models. This part has four chapters. Chapter 12 takes care of growth. Chapter 13 analyzes the main characteristics of business cycles. Chapter 14 presents the empirical evidence on Keynesian models, and Chapter 15 deals with several issues related to the budget constraint, such as chronic inflation, the pathologies of hyperinflation, public debt crises, external debt crises and the fiscal theory of the price level.
