This fourth title in this innovative series establishes connections between jurisdictions which would not conventionally 'speak' to one another, on topics which would not otherwise have been discussed. Over four parts, it looks at questions of: trusts actors; trusts applications; trusts environments; and trusts futures. Chapters are co-written by two (or more) authors, to give a novel perspective on comparative trusts law. This approach allows for a rigorous, systematic exploration of the varied ways in which trusts law manifests across the Asia-Pacific region. An expert and welcome new addition to this leading book series in comparative private law.

Trust between the police and the communities they serve is fundamental to effective law enforcement, yet its erosion continues to challenge public safety worldwide. This edited volume examines community policing as an evolving paradigm in modern law enforcement, bringing together perspectives from scholars, practitioners, and researchers. Tracing its development from Sir Robert Peel's nineteenth-century policing principles to contemporary initiatives such as Kerala's Janamaithri Suraksha Project, the volume offers comparative perspectives from the United States, Japan, Singapore, Canada, and India.
The contributions critically examine established frameworks, including Broken Windows and Zero Tolerance theories, while assessing their relevance to the Indian context and advocating indigenous approaches responsive to local socio-economic conditions. The volume also explores practical dimensions of community policing, including victim-oriented policing, restorative justice, drug-crime prevention, tribal policing, and citizen-participation initiatives such as Friends of Police and Students in Responsible Police.

Designed for academics, policymakers, police professionals, and students of criminology, forensic science, sociology, and public administration, this volume provides a comprehensive and evidence-based understanding of community-oriented policing, its evolving practices, and its potential to strengthen police-community relationships and enhance public safety.

COMMUNITY POLICING AND CRIME PREVENTION - ISSUE AND PRACTICES

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER "Fascinating stories. . . . Boxing ourselves in may be the ultimate way to think outside the box." —Wall Street Journal “I thought David Epstein’s first two books were brilliant, but Inside the Box is his best. I’ll never think about my own work the same way again.” —Malcolm Gladwell It's never been easier to do too much. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Range, why limits are the key to stimulating creativity, innovation, collaboration, and personal contentment. We live in a world that gives us seemingly infinite choices and prizes freedom above all else. We have an unprecedented number of options regarding what to do, who to be, and how to spend our time. All that choice is wonderful; it is also overwhelming. The irony is that total freedom can be paralyzing, and unlimited resources don’t necessarily lead to the biggest breakthroughs. In fact, overvaluing complete freedom can be disastrous for everything from starting a company to harnessing creativity to finding personal satisfaction. David Epstein argues that all of us—individuals, businesses, institutions, even societies—can benefit from narrowing our options. He dives into the science and practice of constraints, exploring exactly when and how guardrails can be beneficial, whether we’re working with limited resources or using self-imposed boundaries to tap unexpected wells of focus and innovation. Original, galvanizing, and deeply researched, Inside the Box tells absorbing stories of people and organizations that embraced constraints to transform themselves, and the world—as well as a few that struggled from a lack of limits. Epstein reveals how boundaries create breakthroughs, and how setting the right constraints can help you become the most creative, productive, and satisfied version of yourself.

How Constraints Make Us Better

Inside the Box

Indecision is a fact of life.We can't decide what film to watch, dinner to make or wine to buy. We hesitate before committing to romantic relationships and then again before breaking up. We worry about how best to invest our money, time, and energy. In contrast, we admire those individuals who can make quick decisions and stick to them with ease. But what if the line we've been sold - that indecision is bad, unhelpful, weak - is wrong? In this ground-breaking book, two leading psychologists upend the traditional decision mindset and reveal the hidden benefits of staying undecided. Drawing on the latest neuroscience and a wealth of examples from current affairs, history and popular culture, Ophelia Deroy and Bahador Bahrami provide fresh insight on everything from online dating and parenting to the gig economy and the way we vote. In so doing, they reveal that our obsession with decision-making does us more harm than good. Offering a radical, and often counterintuitive, new perspective on our everyday predicaments, Indecision encourages us to cultivate the power of an unresolved mind for happier, healthier lives.

Creating truly inclusive workplaces requires more than policies, statements and good intentions - it demands action, awareness and shared responsibility. Allyship Actually: Why It's 'We' and Not 'Me' blends storytelling with practical insight, encouraging readers to reflect on their own behaviours and assumptions, offering a relatable and thought-provoking guide to becoming a more effective ally.

It's a powerful, story-driven exploration of inclusion, workplace culture and the role we all play in creating equitable environments. Drawing on real-life experiences, the book follows professionals across multiple industries as they navigate male-dominated and discriminatory workplaces, confronting the everyday realities of bias, exclusion, and inequality.

Through the journeys of its central characters, the narrative highlights how meaningful allyship goes beyond good intentions - it requires action, awareness and a willingness to challenge entrenched behaviours and systems. As relationships develop and perspectives shift, the book demonstrates how individuals can support one another to drive both personal growth and organisational change.

Following the journeys of professionals navigating complex, often male-dominated environments, the book uncovers the subtle and overt challenges individuals face - from unconscious bias and unequal opportunities to the impact of workplace behaviours on confidence, progression and performance. Through these experiences, it reveals what allyship really looks like in practice - and why it is critical to building stronger, more effective organisations.

Rather than presenting allyship as a theoretical concept, this book demonstrates how it is lived day to day. It shows how individuals at all levels - from peers and managers to senior leaders - can actively support others, challenge inappropriate behaviours and contribute to a culture where people feel valued, heard and empowered to succeed.

Blending engaging storytelling with practical insight, Allyship Actually encourages readers to reflect on their own behaviours and assumptions, offering clear, relatable examples of how small, consistent actions can drive meaningful change. It also highlights the wider organisational benefits of inclusive cultures, including improved collaboration, better decision-making, stronger performance and enhanced employee wellbeing.

Ideal for professionals, leaders, HR practitioners and anyone committed to fostering equality and inclusion, this book provides both inspiration and guidance. It reinforces a simple but powerful message: lasting progress happens when we move beyond individual intent and work collectively - because real allyship is not about "me", but "we".

"An incredibly powerful book!" - Sophie Hussey, director at Lapis Consulting Services Ltd.

Sei interessant!
