Mit dem Diakonischen Corporate Governance Kodex hat der Diskurs um die Unternehmensverfassung in der Diakonie zweifelsohne eine qualitativ neue Ebene erreicht. Warum aber stellt sich Corporate Governance überhaupt als Problem auch für diakonische Organisationen dar - und worin besteht es? Wie lässt sich die Notwendigkeit von Corporate Governance ökonomisch und organisationstheoretisch begründen? Woher leiten wir unser Wissen über die in solchen "Standards guter Unternehmensführung" unterstellten Zusammenhänge ab? Und was ist darauf für die Corporate Governance diakonischer Unternehmen abzuleiten? 
 

 Die theoretische Verortung des Diskurses um die Corporate Governance und deren Kodifikation macht Grundfragen der Verfassung diakonischer Unternehmen fruchtbar für deren praktische Gestaltung.

 With the Diaconal Corporate Governance Code, the discourse on corporate governance in diaconal organizations has undoubtedly reached a qualitatively new level. But why does corporate governance pose a problem for diaconal organizations in the first place - and what does it consist of? How can the necessity of corporate governance be justified from an economic and organizational theory perspective? Where do we derive our knowledge of the relationships assumed in such 'standards of good corporate governance'? And what can be derived from this for the corporate governance of diaconal organizations? 
 

 The theoretical positioning of the discourse on corporate governance and its codification makes fundamental questions about the constitution of diaconal organizations fruitful for their practical design.

AI as Anti-Corruption Technology intends to answer the questions: What drives and what hinders public organisations to experiment with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle corruption? How do they navigate this terrain, and what dilemmas arise? This book explores how AI is innovating anti-corruption efforts across the European Union, focusing on the highly digitalised yet corruption-prone sector of public procurement.As corruption becomes more complex, traditional anti-corruption approaches often fall short. In response, public authorities are turning to AI to process vast data, increase transparency, and reduce discretion, though not without risks. Yet, evidence on real-world applications remains limited. This book fills this gap with rich empirical insights from Italy, Germany, Estonia, and Cyprus, offering a comparative view of diverse corruption, digital government and public procurement contexts. Drawing from interviews with public officials, data scientists, and experts, the book sheds light on actual AI-based applications in anti-corruption, their contexts of design and adoption, and their enablers and roadblocks. This second edition of The Palgrave Handbook of Criminology and the Global South&nbsp;significantly expands, develops and draws together the rapidly growing research and theory about crime, punishment, security, prisons, policing, gender violence, environmental justice, island justice and justice innovations from, of and about the Global South. It addresses the hegemonic bias in the production and dissemination of criminological knowledge and covers a huge scope of research methodologies and lines of inquiry to develop a transnational criminology inclusive of the experiences and perspectives of the Global South. It includes Indigenous, critical, green, southern, feminist, counter-colonial, post-colonial and de-colonial approaches. It seeks to&nbsp;contribute to the bridging of global divides and reducing inequities with the aim to democratise criminological knowledges.

The Palgrave Handbook of Criminology and the Global South

Governments around the world are privatizing everything, with dramatic but largely ignored negative consequences for human rights. This open access book outlines the response that is urgently needed. Corporations are being given control over water, healthcare, housing, public transportation, child welfare services, aged care, and much else. Privatization is promoted by international financial institutions, consulting firms, and development actors as the answer to public finances devastated by the very tax cuts insistently pushed by these groups. Their pitch is based upon a mythology that extols the virtues of an idealized market while ignoring the heavy human rights costs incurred. Building on the latest evidence and on specially commissioned case studies, this book shows how the touted 'efficiency' of the private sector is often predicated on higher charges and/or reduced services, destructive employment practices, and the highly predictable exclusion of many users. Privatization generally costs states more money, marginalizes democratic decision-making, and transforms citizens from rights-holders into customers while sidelining accountability. The authors develop an approach designed to enable human rights actors, including courts, UN treaty monitoring bodies, and NGOs to move beyond their longstanding agnosticism towards privatization. It starts with a presumption that privatization is inherently retrogressive in human rights terms. Whatever mix of public and private is reflected in any given arrangement, governments must retain the degree of control necessary to ensure respect for rights, and the legal, financial and administrative ability to do so. The book charts a new direction for responding to the ever-growing threat that privatization poses to human rights. This book explores the rights of individuals subjected to digital surveillance and monitoring through a range of legal and theoretical perspectives. As digitisation transforms how states, private entities, and individuals use surveillance-across criminal justice systems, workplaces, and in our personal lives-it enables increasingly pervasive forms of monitoring and blurs the boundaries between public and private spaces. This shift raises complex questions about privacy, discrimination, and accountability. While these issues have often been examined in isolated contexts, Digitally Monitored takes a broader view, establishing digital monitoring as a distinct field of enquiry. Together, the chapters address a set of overarching themes that emerge when digital monitoring is viewed more holistically. These include the justifications for monitoring (such as public safety and employee productivity) versus the protection of individual rights, potential infringements on individual liberty, evolving notions of privacy, heightened risks to vulnerable groups posed by biased technologies, and the role of Big Tech in the collection and use of data. The chapters offer a range of perspectives on digital monitoring from various legal angles, including public, private, and international law.
