This book is a collection of essays written to reflect analytical understanding of contemporary Indian economy in the backdrop of approaching deadline of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Dedicated to the memory of late Professor Dhiresh Chandra Bhattacharya, a legendary teacher, an author of a&nbsp;pioneering Indian textbook on the economy of divided India, and the second President of the

 (Bengal Economic Association), this volume uses modern methodologies of economics and econometrics to reflect on prime issues facing the Indian economy. The theoretical and empirical research on some aspect of India’s economic development, have been analyzed by eminent scholars, with a focus on growth and structural change, reforms and macroeconomy, food and nutritional security, and sustainable development. The book examines the inclusive growth paradigm in India in the context of rising inequality in income and wealth distribution, and the tenets of longterm behavior of the economy in the context of GDP growth. It highlights the need of GDP growth to be juxtaposed against the imperatives of distributional challenges that the economy has been facing even after 75 years. Opportunities & Challenges of Development

India's Political Economy @75

This book showcases the work of Annapurna Pariwar, an NGO comprising six organizations, over the past 30 years and its impact on changing the lives of low-income working women with small businesses in the slums of Mumbai and Pune in the Indian state of Maharashtra. This group of six organizations together forms a social enterprise, established at a time of major changes in the Indian economy in the form of globalization and urbanization. The NGO set out to address issues of livelihood and poverty alleviation in slums. Adopting a path that was sustainable and did not depend upon grants, the journey is a fascinating account of learnings in organizational evolution and its impact on the lives of poor women.The book is divided into two parts. The first part has three chapters charting the journey of Annapurna Pariwar based on interviews with Medha Tai, the founder of Annapurna Pariwar. These chapters discuss milestones, organizational evolution, and challenges, especially demonetization and COVID-19. The lifecycle of the organization and of the women in the case studies are juxtaposed within the framework of financial, physical, sociocultural, and political spaces. The second part of the book contains analyses from well-known authors and academics who contextualize the relevance of Annapurna Pariwar’s work and future against microfinance, microinsurance, plus services, social entrepreneurship, digitization, and urban landscapes. The book thus contributes not only to the practice-field; it has several academic contributions as well for researchers studying social phenomena such as social entrepreneurship, microfinance, cooperatives, women empowerment, and women entrepreneurship. While doing so, it addresses SDGs such as SDG3, SDG5, SDG8, and SDG11. The book is for a wide audience, comprising social entrepreneurs in the field of social development, microfinance, and microinsurance. This book explores how multisector collaboration approaches in Kenya and South Africa contribute to the fulfilment of human rights state obligations to prevent and effectively respond to sexual violence against women. Applying a feminist human rights perspective, the author unpacks state obligations to exercise due diligence in prevention, protection, prosecution, punishment and provision of adequate remedies to victims. This perspective puts victims’ needs and rights at the forefront in assessing service integration models, while foregrounding the need for state accountability to establish sustainable and effective sexual violence interventions. Using a qualitative case-study approach and interview data, it analyses how sexual violence service integration centers operate in urban, peri-urban and rural contexts . It demonstrates how these multi-sector collaboration approaches can produce different service orientations that may eclipse and de-center the needs and rights of sexual violence victims. The author concludes by discussing the parameters of what a victimcentered service integration approach would look like and highlights critical ways to shift deeply-rooted social, structural and institutional norms, which are the root causes of violence against women.

This book discusses various debates around the policy of rural development in India. Various authors in this volume attempt to show how the issue of rural development requires looking into multiple issues at hand. Looking at the issue from the dignity perspective, it not only offers a critique of the existing policy framework but also proposes an alternative one. As life expectancy continues to rise and birthrates decline, nations around the world face unprecedented challenges in caring for aging populations. This book offers a comprehensive analysis of long-term care insurance systems—both public and private—and the evolving landscape of eldercare services across diverse countries.
Driven by three critical factors—the growing number of elderly individuals requiring intensive care, the need to eliminate "social hospitalization," and the escalating costs of medical care for seniors—governments have been compelled to rethink and restructure their approaches to long-term care.&nbsp;First, the rapid increase in average life expectancy has led to an increase in the number of bedridden elderly and those suffering from dementia, and the need for and importance of long-term care has grown.&nbsp;Second, it was necessary to eliminate "social hospitalization”. Social hospitalization refers to a condition in which a patient is not in need of medical care but remains hospitalized in a medical institution for compelling reasons such as family circumstances. Third, medical costs for the elderly were increasing rapidly. It was necessary to control the increase in medical costs by separating medical care from long-term care.
Through comparative research and policy analysis, this book clarifies the distinct roles of public and private insurance models and offers actionable recommendations for sustainable and equitable care in aging societies.
