Contrats de Performance et Partenariats Public-Privé

Financer et exploiter autrement les réseaux routiers

Reinventing Transit for the 21st Century addresses the critical state of urban transit systems in the U.S., exacerbated by declining ridership and looming fiscal challenges post-COVID. The book advocates for substantial reforms, including transitioning to contracted services, fostering competition, and redesigning transit boards to emphasize expertise over politics. It also calls for integrating various service modes and adopting new technologies to reduce costs and enhance the rider experience. Spanning 10 chapters, the book begins with an overview of current transit systems and the factors behind their decline. It outlines a vision for modern transit, focusing on customer needs, service redesign, complementary services like bike-sharing, funding mechanisms, and international lessons on contracting. Governance improvements and the role of technology are also discussed, with a concluding chapter presenting a model 21st-century transit system. Accessible to political leaders, transit executives, researchers, planners, and riders, the book includes a glossary for clarity. It emphasizes the importance of serving transit-dependent riders, often from lower-income Communities of Color, to boost ridership and provide essential services. This book is essential for anyone invested in the future of urban transit.

Autonomous Driving and Mixed Traffic Dynamics provides an introduction to autonomous vehicles (AV) in road transport systems, along with discussions on the critical similarities and differences with human drivers. Focusing on key concepts in traffic dynamics and AI-based modeling, the book also offers a comprehensive discussion of the unique dynamics introduced by AVs and their impacts on congestion, safety, energy, and their role in sustainable future intelligent transportation systems. Sections delve into traditional driving behaviors, examining the basics of car-following, driver characteristics, lateral movement, and how well AI models generalize these behaviors. Further sections cover shifts to autonomous driving systems, analyzing their operational principles and providing comparative evidence with human drivers. Assessments on the performance of traditional car-following models against artificial intelligence developments that highlight strengths and weaknesses for each approach are also included. Final sections integrate human drivers and AVs into broader traffic flow theories, presenting findings on how autonomous driving impacts traffic patterns, look at the role of AI and modeling, explore the pros and cons of various methods and data sources, and discuss real-world traffic management applications, combining AI and traditional models for traffic estimation, control, and ensuring fair, disruption-resilient outcomes.

History of Freight Brokering in AmericaFreight brokering is one of the most important yet least understood industries in the American economy. Every product sold, shipped, stocked, or delivered depends on the movement of freight, and behind that movement stands a network of brokers coordinating the wheels of commerce. This comprehensive history explores the rise and evolution of freight brokering from the earliest days of horse-drawn wagons and steam locomotives to today's world of digital logistics, AI-driven transportation systems, and e-commerce fulfillment networks.Learn how:

Railroads transformed national commerce

Freight brokers became essential supply chain coordinators

Government regulations shaped the transportation industry

Trucking overtook rail as America's freight backbone

Technology revolutionized logistics management

Economic crises forced brokers to innovate and adapt

E-commerce changed customer expectations forever

Fraud, double brokering, and illegal dispatching threaten the industry today

Automation and artificial intelligence may reshape the future of freight

This book also provides practical insight into:

Freight broker licensing and FMCSA regulations

The freight broker bond process

Carrier relationships and load management

Dispatching versus freight brokering

Supply chain management fundamentals

Industry associations and compliance standards

Perfect for:

Truck drivers

Freight brokers

Logistics professionals

Supply chain students

Owner-operators

Transportation enthusiasts

Business entrepreneurs

Veterans entering logistics careers

Written in a clear and engaging style, this book blends transportation history, real-world logistics knowledge, industry insight, and modern freight operations into one complete volume.America was built on transportation. This is the story of the people who kept it moving.

Measuring Transportation Network Performance: Analysis and Practice is a comprehensive guide to developing, analysing, and interpreting performance measures for transportation networks. It explains the concepts, technical requirements, analytical choices, and practical considerations needed to build an effective network performance measurement system and to understand how transportation networks change over time. The book examines the major dimensions of network performance across different modes of transport, including travel time, speed, delay, reliability, congestion, flow, connectivity, accessibility, resilience, equity, environmental performance, and safety. Rather than presenting performance measures as isolated indicators, it explains how they should be defined, calculated, interpreted, and combined to answer practical transportation planning and network management questions. Practical examples highlight common analytical challenges, limitations, and errors that can influence the conclusions drawn from transportation data. The book also takes readers through the practical process of network performance measurement. Detailed case studies demonstrate how a performance measurement system can be developed and how multiple measures can be brought together to explain the performance story of a transportation network. Strongly focused on practical application, the book is written for transportation engineers, planners, analysts, researchers, transport agencies, consultants, and others involved in understanding network performance. It helps readers move beyond producing indicators toward using data to understand network conditions, diagnose problems, evaluate change, and communicate meaningful performance insights that support better planning, operations, and decision making.

Models and Measures for Sustainable City Logistics: Behavioral Choice Processes offers a thorough understanding of urban goods movements, focusing on stakeholders’ behavior. It outlines the role of modeling behaviors in determining urban goods movements, mapping the behavioral process of end consumers and retailers. It provides new methods of urban freight transport simulation, considering the challenges of sustainable development goals, and uses the most recent modeling approaches for designing and planning city logistics scenarios. It also outlines the relationships between measures and the main components of sustainable development. This book guides readers in implementing the most effective city logistics measures and actions through the estimation of impacts and system performances. It first specifies end-consumers’ behaviors, then formalizes retailers’ behaviors. Subsequently, decision-maker patterns and the goods quantities are analyzed. It presents problems whose solutions allow planners to identify various types of urban freight vehicles and subsequent road network flows. It also gives the overall structure of the model system and the specification of each single model. It presents some models calibrated in different real cases, highlighting their transferability to other contexts. It reviews the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs). It presents energy efficiency according to the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030, evidencing the different roles of the transshipment nodes. Furthermore, it introduces Implementable measures and examines the relationships between measures and the main components of Sustainable Development of Agenda 2030. Transportation technicians (urban transport planners, urban traffic managers and company f leet managers), postgraduate students, and researchers alike will find this to be a valuable resource to understand how to incorporate user behavior into urban freight transport and logistics planning and modeling, ultimately helping them optimize processes and promote sustainability.
