An intimate account of a decade in the life of poet and painter Musa McKim and her husband Philip Guston, told through McKim's journal entries and poems. Bringing together Musa McKim's journals and poetry, My Life with P.: The Journals of Musa McKim Guston, 1966 1976 draws an intimate and candid portrait of McKim's life as writer and her marriage to the esteemed painter Philip Guston. The book spans a critical decade in the couple's marriage as well as a period of profound change and productivity in Guston's artistic practice that saw the creation of some of his most iconic late works. McKim's writings capture daily life at their home and studio in Woodstock, trips to New York City, travels abroad to Mexico and Italy, and time spent at various artist residencies. A rich collection of artworks and archival images documents the couple's domestic and social lives and the fellow artists and writers who made up their world. Alongside her introduction, notes by their daughter Musa Mayer provide valuable context to her mother's writings. Complementing Mayer's own celebrated memoir Night Studio (1988), My Life with P. is an extraordinary window into McKim's singular experience of the world.

This fascinating book explores the numerous literary connections, themes, symbolism, and cultural and social references underlying The Silver Chair and The Horse and His Boy, the fourth and fifth books in C. S. Jackson Pollock, the towering American artist who was to revolutionize twentieth-century art with his "dripping" painting technique, grew up between the late 1920s and the late 1940s, the youngest of five boys born in the American West. Though often apart, whether they were traveling for work or for studies, sons and parents kept in close touch through their regular exchange of letters.&nbsp; Their correspondence offers an invaluable insight into the formation of one of America's most influential artists, but it also draws a unique portrait of America itself between two momentous events in its history: the Great Depression and World War II. My Reading

This is a book about reading, drawing, and getting better-and what they have to do with one another. 

Specifically, it is about how these activities were put into relation by the British essayist, artist, and psychoanalyst, Marion Milner (1900-1996). The guiding question of Milner's life was of how people come to feel alive in, and feel creatively responsive to, their own lives. In pursuit of this, Milner explored fields as diverse as anthropology, folklore, education, literature, art, philosophy, mysticism, and psychology. She became one of the twentieth centurys most extraordinary thinkers about creativity.

David Russell shows that there is no writer quite like Milner and the rewards of reading her are immense. Key to all her writing is her search for creative practices of attention-of how we pay attention in the life we have. She helped to develop a kind of psychoanalysis in Britain that focussed on the ways people relate to their own lives and the lives of others.
