Bitcoin - One Answer to Many Questions

Every leader knows the drain of conflict handled badly: performance conversations that go nowhere, teams that don't trust each other, fires you keep putting out instead of doing the work you want to do. Most leadership advice treats conflict as a threat to manage. This book makes the opposite case: Conflict is energy, and how you use it determines whether it builds your team or turns your work culture toxic. That choice has never mattered more. Employees now spend over a third of their workday dealing with conflict, and fewer than half trust their leader to navigate it well. Leaders who don't handle conflict skillfully create workplaces with 80 percent more unproductive conflict. Ninety-four percent of people trained in this framework rate it more effective than anything else they've used. What makes this different from the standard playbook for “difficult conversations”? Most frameworks ask you to choose: kind or direct, relationship or results. This book rejects that trade-off: Compassion without accountability is ineffective, and accountability without it is unkind. This book shows how to hold both, using the compassion cycle, the drama triangle it replaces, and the ORPO formula, turning principle into a repeatable playbook. The book moves in three parts: first naming the problem, how good intentions and unmanaged conflict energy spiral into drama; then introducing the antidote, the compassion cycle and the behavioral skills that interrupt drama before it takes hold; and finally handing you the playbook, the ORPO formula and match-and-move method for engaging conflict and coaching others through it in real time. New to this edition:

A complete framework outline up front

Fifteen years of refinement teaching, coaching, and certifying practitioners worldwide

New research on what skilled conflict leadership is worth

Reorganized chapters, more-inclusive language, fresh real-life illustrations

Access to the Compassionate Accountability Assessment and a range of additional resources to extend the book's impact well beyond the page

Written by Nate Regier, PhD, cofounder and CEO of Next Element Consulting, this book distills two decades of applied research into a model any leader can use the next time conflict shows up, which will be soon.

A Playbook for Drama-Proof Leadership

Conflict Without Casualties, Third Edition

A compassionate and research-driven guide to everyday practices that transform how we tackle change in the new world of work. As disruptive change and the rise of bots and algorithms reshape our work life, Human Mode shows the urgency—and demonstrates the power—of bringing distinctly human capabilities front and center. Based on the author’s long experience advising both global corporations and local healthcare professionals, it reveals how deploying our full humanity allows us to master crucial skills: the art of reading the room, bringing dissenting voices into the conversation, and building consensus. It shows how to become “Bricoleurs,” skillful foragers who use their complete portfolio of memories, quirks, contradictions, even private passions, to solve unprecedented challenges. And it makes the case for “competent humility” as a means of shedding the ill-timed and misguided pressure to maintain performative perfectionism. While exposing the crippling limitations of an old-fashioned “professional” mode that reduces us to interchangeable, muted cogs, Human Mode guides us toward a new work mode—one far more successful at fostering meaningful collaboration, boosting creativity, and enhancing performance, while also helping us achieve far greater life satisfaction. In other words, it brings us back to human mode. Turn Your Humanity into Your Greatest Strength: Instead of suppressing who you are, use it to your competitive advantage—building deeper connections, having stronger impact, and creating a more fulfilling professional life. Powerful Stories: Through relatable experiences, expert insights, and real-world examples, you’ll recognize yourself in these pages—and see a path forward navigating today’s evolving workplace with momentum. Find Purpose Without Sacrificing Your Well-Being: For anyone craving more meaning, balance, and mental health in their career, this book validates what you’ve been feeling—and shows you what to do next. From Stuck and Burned Out to Energized and Productive: Learn simple, practical techniques that spark “aha” moments and help you reconnect with your drive, creativity, and goals.

For senior leaders whose strong record no longer settles the question being asked about them. Former global C-suite executive and executive coach Azhar Syed explains why strong performance stops being enough for senior advancement—and what changes when it does. Senior leaders are often surprised when the qualities that built their careers no longer move them forward. They deliver strong results, develop deep expertise, make important contributions, and earn support from influential people, yet they still are not chosen for broader responsibility. Syed identifies 6 familiar metrics leaders use to make the case for advancement:

Results: “Look What I Have Delivered”

Expertise: “Look What I Know”

Personal Contribution: “Look What I Do”

Judgment: “Look How Right I Am”

Sponsorship: “Look Who Backs Me”

Reputation: “Look How I Have Changed”

Each metric reflects a real way of creating value. But none, by itself, fully answers the question senior decision-makers are trying to resolve: Can this leader be trusted with greater risk, broader consequences, and decisions that affect the whole organization? Syed explains why becoming indispensable can keep a leader tied to a current role, why being right does not establish judgment at a wider radius unless others can test and carry the decision, why a powerful sponsor cannot make an appointment defensible on the leader’s behalf, and why genuine change may go unnoticed by the people whose expectations matter. Readers will learn what broader responsibility asks of them, what their record currently establishes, what decision-makers may reasonably infer, and how to distinguish between a gap they can address and a barrier embedded in the organization. Clear and candid, this book helps senior leaders understand why their established evidence may no longer settle the next decision—and what their record needs to establish before others can confidently trust them with more.

'Michael Auerbach has one of the most original minds I've ever encountered . . . This is a dazzling and entertaining book . . . But it is also an urgent warning' PATRICK RADDEN KEEFE, author of Empire of Pain A brilliant exploration of the phenomenon of prediction markets that asks: what happens when democracy becomes another commodity? Prediction markets are sweeping the world, fundamentally changing the nature of gambling - and the very ways in which we attempt to divine the future. Posed as binary 'Yes/No' questions about future events, prediction markets allow any difference of opinion - whether on pop culture or politics, wars or assassinations - to be financialised. A regulatory minefield with moral implications that divide nations, governments and bettors, they have proved as effective at accurately predicting the timing of missile strikes as they have at calling the outcomes of elections. But are these markets really a new phenomenon? And what does it mean when those tasked with safeguarding democracy hold financial stakes in its volatility? From Renaissance Rome, where merchants wagered on papal conclaves, through nineteenth-century London's wartime coffee house gossip, to the Pentagon's ill-fated terrorism futures exchange and blockchain-based betting on Polymarket today, The Big Bet tells the gripping five-hundred-year story of a permissive regime that no one designed and no one voted for.Drawing on deep expertise, Michael Auerbach examines how these markets are changing our world, and what they mean for the future where democracy becomes just another commodity to be priced and traded. Because prediction markets are not an anomaly - they are the logical endpoint of a society that has applied market capitalism to every aspect of life. And in a world where everything is a wager and nothing is off limits, knowing where the chips will fall matters more than ever.
