Tibi B: Basler Unbequeme Gedanken

Basler Unbequeme Gedanken

Springer Proceedings in Business and Economics

This volume presents a carefully selected collection of peer-reviewed chapters from the Proceedings of the 16th Global Islamic Marketing Conference (GIMAC16). The chapters reflect the latest research trends and conceptual developments in Islamic business, marketing, and management. They explore the intersection of faith, ethics, and commerce through empirical and theoretical studies conducted across diverse Muslim-majority and minority contexts. The book offers a rich and multidisciplinary overview of how Islamic principles continue to influence contemporary business thought and practice. Contributions address a broad range of themes, including Muslim consumer behaviour, services marketing, and the ethical and operational dimensions of Halal business practices. Other chapters examine emerging topics such as social media marketing and influencer culture, e-commerce and digital transformation, consumer boycotts and socio-political activism, religiosity and consumer decision-making, and the integration of artificial intelligence and sustainability within Sharia-compliant frameworks. Comparative studies of Islamic and conventional business models, as well as regional case analyses from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, provide valuable cross-cultural insights. Beyond their empirical contributions, these chapters collectively highlight the growing significance of Islamic values in global business discourse, emphasizing integrity, social justice, and the public good (Mäläah). Together, they demonstrate how Islamic marketing evolves as both a field of scholarly inquiry and a practical guide for ethical business conduct in dynamic global markets. This book is an essential reference for scholars, postgraduate students, and researchers interested in Islamic marketing, Islamic economics, and business ethics. It is equally relevant for consultants, policy makers, and corporate strategists seeking to deepen their understanding of Muslim markets and to design marketing and management strategies that align with faith-based consumer expectations and values.

According to Islamic tradition, God has at least ninety-nine names. In Ninety-Nine, Amira Mittermaier presents ninety-nine short chapters based on her fieldwork and interviews with over one hundred Egyptians about who God is to them. In Egypt's turbulent twenty-first century-the Egyptian uprising, a military coup, a pandemic, a climate crisis, wars across the region-God is talked about endlessly yet remains elusive. Ninety-Nine follows Allah into different spaces and conversations without ever claiming to get the full picture. We meet a Cairo beggar, an enigmatic dervish, a queer agnostic, and a Salafi housewife. We meet a depressed God, a cute God, a God who has stopped caring, a loving God, and a God who is a bully. We learn about divine interventions, big and small, and about daily struggles, even fights, with God. An intimate mosaic of Allah, Ninety-Nine celebrates the multiplicity inherent to the Islamic tradition and offers insight into how present-day Muslims grapple with big theological questions amidst their busy lives.

The Mysteries of the Human Soul is a careful English translation of al-Im¿m Ab¿ ¿¿mid al-Ghaz¿l¿'s profound treatise al-Madn¿n bihi ¿al¿ Ghayri Ahlihi, a work devoted to the deepest questions of human existence: the origin of the soul, its relationship to the body, its immortality, and its ultimate return to God.
Grounded firmly in the Qur'¿n and the teachings of the Prophet ¿, the work explores themes such as taswiyah (fashioning), nafkh al-r¿¿ (the breathing of the spirit), the indivisibility of the soul, and the metaphysical distinction between the world of matter and the world of divine command (¿¿lam al-amr). Al-Ghaz¿l¿ engages theological reasoning, philosophical critique, and disciplined mystical reflection while maintaining strict doctrinal boundaries and ethical restraint.
The book also addresses eschatological doctrines including resurrection, the balance of deeds, intercession, the Bridge over Hell, the punishment of the grave, and spiritual versus physical reward-always framed as matters of belief grounded in revelation rather than speculative metaphysics.

Translated with clarity and fidelity, this volume is neither devotional poetry nor abstract philosophy, but a rigorous Islamic inquiry into the soul (nafs and r¿¿) as understood within Sunni theology and classical Sufism.

The Tart¿b al-Mad¿rik (Organising the means and revealing the methods for discovering the eminent scholars of the School of M¿lik) by Q¿¿¿ 'Iy¿d al-Yä¿ub¿ is a seminal biographical compendium of the scholars of the M¿lik¿ school. It begins with an extensive biography dealing with Im¿m M¿lik and records the chains of scholars from him, divided by region, listing over 1300 scholars in nine generations in eight volumes.
Shaykh Abdalqadir as-Sufi regarded the Tart¿b al-Mad¿rik as the essential record of the intellectual lineage of the scholars who transmitted the school of Madina, and it is the foundational reference in his seminal work, Root Islamic Education because of how it highlights the knowledge and behaviour exemplified in the lives of the early scholars. He says:'We can show you a line that goes from Madinah al-Munawwara at the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and give him peace, through to Imam Malik, and from Imam Malik continues for five hundred years-in the Middle East, to the gates of India and to the gates of Russia, right across North Africa, right into Europe. For five hundred years, you find that the leadership was in the hands of slaves who were fuqah¿' and before whom amirs bowed their heads. And I say that is Islamic history, and not this other thing that has been invented by the orientalists which we have fallen for - of dynasties and epochs marked by changes in the style of jugs and arches.' (p.16)
You could say that the Tart¿b al-Mad¿rik provides the foundation and blueprint for the understanding conveyed by Root Islamic Education. The work provides biographies of the scholars and their historical positions and how they dealt with the problems that arose in times of conflict because we see the interaction of scholars with the Abbasids, Aghlabids, Fatimids, Andalusian Umayyads, Mur¿bit¿n, and others. We see how they interacted with power, and the role and proper behaviour of the q¿¿¿. It also fleshes out the implementation of the d¿n, providing a practical guide to education and action. It shows Islam embodied in real people and the action which that produces in society. It is a corrective to an abstract or idealised approach to Islam. It also provides us with a rich tapestry of the history in which the scholars lived, particularly North Africa and Andalusia, and a sort of historical map of Maliki scholars. It is, as Shaykh Abdalqadir says in Root Islamic Education:
'We would take the Tart¿b al-Mad¿rik of Qadi Iyad because it gives this record and will let them see an example on which they must be based, and on which they have no choice but to be based. The Tart¿b al-Mad¿rik is a record of human achievement, Islamically, that, I tell you, when you study it, you will say, "I did not know such men existed on the face of the earth!" And the Tart¿b al-Mad¿rik is more electrifying than any of the books of the Tadhkirat al-Awliya' and so on, much more electrifying as a phenomenon of the human splendour of the people that this Islamic deen has produced. It is magnificent, in its raising up of the human being.' (p. 21)Volume 2 treats the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations of M¿lik¿ scholars, including such as Asad ibn al-Fur¿t who began the process of asking Ibn al-Q¿sim, Ibn Wahb and other direct students of Imam M¿lik about his positions on many issues; Sän¿n the compiler of the Mudawwana based on Asad's work which he thoroughly revised; Abu-l-¿asan al-Ash'ar¿ the founder of the eponymous school of kal¿m; and Ab¿ Bakr ash-Shibl¿, the noted student of al-Junayd and, in his own right, shaykh of täawwuf.

Geflüchtete erzählen vom Ankommen in Deutschland.
