Each contribution considers contemporary policy-relevant issues; in so doing, this collection examines and emphasizes the background, scope, and impacts of policy decisions. As such, the focus of this book is purposely broad, considering local, state, federal and binational perspectives. Full of fresh arguments and insights about a complex and relatively understudied relationship and expanding on previous academic treatments of the Clean Water Act, this volume also complements applied studies centered on Lake Champlain Basin water-management issues and activities.

The Clean Water Act and the Lake Champlain Basin

This open access book offersa cultural history of lawsuits that traces the development of French performance rights from la Belle Époque, throughthe Roaring Twenties, and into thePost-War period. It does so by analysing the ways in which performers, composers, and playwrights took to French courtrooms, sought attention in mass media, and participated in political debates to claim their rights to create and control musical and theatrical performance. In 19th-century France, composers and playwrights organised in member-run societies that successfully used authors' rights legislation to curb the power of theatre managers. By the turn of the 20th century, these so-called collective management organisations had transformed French cultural industries by building out structures of royalty collection and improving litigation practices. From the café-concert culture in 19th-century Montmartre and the rise of modern celebrity culture, to mass media and radio entertainment, the book traces precedent-setting litigation that defined who creates and controls performance. The book challenges previous narratives that centre the individualisation of authors in the expansion of the international copyright regime while neglecting performers. Instead, it reveals the ways in which the personality and individuality of performers have played a constitutive role in discourses about genius, technology, and legal categories. Performance as Intellectual Property is for anyone interested in the emergence of modern European cultural industries and the relationships between intellectual property systems, creativity, and art. Her research interests include innovation and development, learning and technological capability accumulation at the firm level, university–industry linkages, research and development (R&amp;D), and innovation policy.
 Martín Puchet Anyul
 is Professor of Quantitative Methods at the Faculty of Economics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). His research focuses on various aspects of the Mexican and Latin American economies, with notable contributions on growth, investment, innovation systems, and economic development.

This book by Paolo Spadoni and José Luis Perelló Cabrera examines the history of tourism in Cuba and the expansion and struggles of international tourism in Cuba in the post-Cold War era. The Cuban Tourism Industry: Evolution, Challenges, and Prospects begins with a historical review of the development of tourism as an important industry in pre-1959 Cuba and the subsequent decline in the first fifteen years of the revolution before a modest recovery in the second half of the 1970s and during the 1980s. Spadoni and Cabrera continue with a thorough analysis of the remarkable expansion of international tourism in Cuba in the post-Cold War era and in the era of improved relations with the United States that officially began in 2014, along with an assessment of the sector's economic impact and its main challenges. A critical assessment of the damaging effects on the Cuban tourism sector of stiffened U.S. sanctions imposed by the Trump administration, and largely maintained by the Biden administration, is also provided.
