This book explores the history and evolution of Australia’s steel industry. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the creation of a large, technologically advanced steel sector was widely seen as essential for economic development, providing vital inputs for railways, shipping, engineering, and construction. While new materials such as plastics, aluminium, and concrete have since taken centre stage, steel once stood at the heart of industrial progress.In the Australian context, the steel industry became closely linked with Broken Hill Proprietary Limited (BHP), for decades the country’s largest private corporation and long identified as the “Big Australian.” BHP’s exit from steelmaking in 2002 marked not just a corporate turning point but also reflected the broader transformation of the Australian economy, where mining increasingly overshadowed manufacturing.Yet, the story of steel in Australia is not merely one of decline. This book examines how the industry endured through profound shifts in the national and global economy, overcoming challenges and adapting to survive, even prosper, through the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In doing so, it reveals how businesses, particularly in the manufacturing sector, can demonstrate resilience and strategic adaptation in an era of globalisation.By tracing the steel industry’s rise, struggles, and persistence, this book offers fresh insights into the dynamics of industrial change and the lessons it holds for Australia’s economic future.

Australian Steel in a Globalised World

The author decided to write this pamphlet to express his disappointment with Germany. 
In particular, Germany's development over the last 20 years gives him cause for concern, frustration and, very often, anger. 
On closer inspection of our country, especially from an international perspective, it is clear that there are significant signs of social decline, be it a lack of respect, dishonesty, insincerity, or a lack of commitment to anything or anyone, which is embodied by the so-called Merkel generation in particular. 

'What do my neighbours matter to me, as long as my life and my advancement are secure?' 
Since 2005, under the governments of Angela Merkel and her successors, Germany has fallen into a deep sleep, and waking up from it will be very painful. The idiotic austerity measures at any price and the reduction of state services are based on no foundation and no reasonable economic knowledge. The so-called black zero in the budget does not exist in economic theory. 

Germany's entire infrastructure, its moral state, its social constitution and its international reputation have suffered greatly. Intolerance, racism, hatred, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia have increased significantly. Politicians can no longer get this under control, and it is now up to us, society, to stand up and put a stop to these developments. 

The future of our country and our children, our prosperity, our happiness and our position in the world depend on it. 

Against this backdrop, this book puts its finger on the wounds of today's Germany. It adresses those who question themselves and society, a book against the hypocrisy and cowardice of German society and politics.

 But this behaviour can also be found in a similar form in other Western societies.

The Past, Present, and Future of European Data Regulation

It is part of the self-image of liberal democracies to critically examine their own historical actions. Document editions represent an important contribution to the preservation and exploration of our societies' historical heritage, to the documentary traceability and transparency of political processes, and - through further publications - to historical enlightenment and political education. The first series of Foreign Policy Documents of the Republic of Austria 1918-1938 (ADÖ-I), initiated in 1990 by Arnold Suppan with Klaus Koch and Walter Rauscher, was completed in 2016; the 12 volumes are now also available online. This first volume marks the beginning of the second series of Foreign Policy Documents of the Republic of Austria (ADÖ-II), which covers the period after the Second World War. The volume comprises 312 documents from the archives of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and the Austrian State Archives in a text-critical and scholarly edition, including an introduction and index. It documents the period from mid-April 1945 to the end of May 1947. The volume focuses on the re-establishment of the Republic after liberation from National Socialism, the restoration of relations with foreign countries, particularly with the four occupying and controlling powers, the safeguarding of food supplies and the territorial integrity of the country, the struggle for South Tyrol's self-determination, and the regaining of full state sovereignty through a treaty. The volume concludes with the transitional phase between the failure of the Moscow Foreign Ministers' Conference on April 24, 1947, and the announcement of the US aid program for Europe, the Marshall Plan, on June 5.

The coloniality of space dispossessed Indigenous, African, and mixed populations as it constructed new systems of control and movement. Deere demonstrates how these developments manifested, among other forms, in urban grid patterns imposed during the development of Spanish colonial cities as well as totalizing trade routes crisscrossing the Atlantic.
