This open access book proposes slow memory as a new framework for understanding how remembrance operates across time, urging scholars and practitioners to resist the acceleration that characterizes both contemporary scholarship and public memory cultures. The authors explore the theoretical foundations of slow memory in relation to environmental humanities and Indigenous studies, emphasizing themes of deep time, intergenerational justice, and contested memory regimes. The collection focuses on the fields of environment, (de)industrialization, welfare, politics, and conflict to examine how gradual transformations impact the present through remembrance practices at different tempos. It advocates for a deceleration of scholarly and commemorative practices to develop ethical, sustainable, and inclusive engagements with the past. By foregrounding slowness as a conceptual and methodological tool, and slow memory as a "connective concept," this book offers a vital framework for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners seeking to rethink the temporalities of remembrance in an era of rapid transformation. Slowing Down Memory Studies

This book offers a pioneering and deeply insightful examination of one of the most challenging dilemmas in contemporary counterterrorism and international law: how to legally and morally assess the responsibility of female suicide bombers affiliated with terrorist groups such as Boko Haram. It exposes a critical legal blind spot where female bombers are caught in a 'grey zone' - neither fully prosecuted nor released - due to conflicting norms around gender, victimhood and terrorism. Drawing on extensive research including interviews, case studies of failed suicide bombers, and legal analysis of terrorism cases, it develops a novel culpability framework that moves beyond simplistic notions of guilt or innocence. By exploring the complex spectrum of moral and legal responsibility, this framework offers a much-needed tool for policymakers, judges, practitioners, academics and students dealing with terrorism, war crimes and transitional justice. It challenges prevailing gender stereotypes that often either criminalise women excessively or excuse them arbitrarily and instead provides a nuanced approach that recognises female bombers as individuals whose actions range from coerced victimhood to accountable perpetrators. More than a legal study, this book humanises the lived realities of women involved in violent extremism and highlights the urgent need for legal systems worldwide to adapt. It is essential reading for scholars, legal professionals, policymakers, and anyone interested in terrorism, gender, human rights and international justice.

This open access book brings together leading European labour law scholars to explore how workers' representatives' rights are evolving in the context of the digital transformation of work. Rooted in EU and national legal frameworks, the book examines how information and consultation (I&amp;C) rights must adapt to the challenges posed by platform work, algorithmic management, cross-border telework, and digitalisation more broadly. Structured around 4 key themes-Who is entitled to I&amp;C rights; Where these rights apply in transnational and virtual workplaces; How they are exercised in the context of AI, occupational safety, and industrial democracy; and What new rights are emerging in response to digital risks-the book offers a comprehensive and comparative analysis of labour law in the digital age. It pays particular attention to the role of workers' representatives in shaping and implementing emerging rights such as the right to disconnect. Drawing on the findings of the DIGILARE research project (EU grant 101126503), the volume provides actionable legal and policy insights for EU institutions, national lawmakers, social partners, and practitioners. This book uncovers and reconstructs the growing body of legal principles and rules governing mortgages that have been developed by different transnational institutions and actors. It shows how mortgages have evolved from a type of real security commonly used to facilitate lending by mitigating credit risk, to a transferable commodity with the potential to affect international financial stability and consumer welfare. In doing so, the book reveals the emergence of new policy objectives and rationales for regulation that have led to changes in the structure and functions of mortgage laws. Characterising this development as a type of transnational law, the book highlights the paradigm shifts in the law of residential mortgages brought about by their increasing global relevance. The analysis reveals tensions between the goals of risk mitigation, financial stability, consumer protection and housing justice. The result is an innovative analysis at the intersection of contract law, property law and international financial regulation. The book portrays transnational mortgage law as a complex field governed by a plurality of socially and economically relevant but potentially conflicting goals and principles.

This book provides a multi-jurisdictional analysis of the role of law in accelerating the development of floating offshore wind energy. With ongoing technological advancements in the context of the energy transition, floating offshore wind represents a significant advancement in the global transition towards sustainable energy. Debates around the inherent ecological tensions raised by fixed-bottom offshore wind turbines, as well as the value of deeper offshore wind exploration, are considered alongside unanswered questions on the complexity of the marine environment and its governance in relation to the deployment of floating offshore wind energy. Other questions focus on marine spatial planning, licensing and permitting procedures, and the safety of installing and maintaining complex offshore energy infrastructure. Although these issues partially coincide with those related to traditional bottom-fixed installation, the book provides an opportunity to test the extent to which traditional legal and regulatory strategies may or may not be suited to the fast-growing deployment of floating offshore wind energy. Written by experts across multiple jurisdictions where floating projects are being developed, the book unlocks new thinking on regulatory modelling and design at a time when floating wind is expected to resolve the complexity of the Energy Quadrilemma.

This monograph provides an in-depth analysis of Article 7 of the Rome II Regulation, and its interplay with other EU PIL provisions, from a litigation perspective. Simultaneously, due to its critical approach, it provides a blueprint for the European legislator to implement future legislative amendments in the said rules, in order to suppress their limitations. Overall, the book reaches conclusions on:
*whether it is effective at all, from the standpoint of environmental protection, to intervene in environmental matters though PIL means;
