Who gets to control culture, knowledge, and innovation? From patents over Indigenous traditional knowledge to appropriation of LGBTQ+ symbols, and copyright over translated fan works, intellectual property law sits at the heart of struggles over power, identity, and belonging. This book brings together contributions from leading international lawyers from different generations, countries, and substantive areas of specialization-from public international law generalists to regional experts-, reflecting on topics currently shaping the future of international law towards which Antônio Augusto Cançado Trindade made an enduring contribution. A generalist, Cançado Trindade is arguably the highest exponent of public international lawyer to emerge so far from Latin America. A seating judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the time of his passing, he was a Member of the Curatorium of the Hague Academy of International Law (since 2004) and a Member of the prestigious Institute of International Law (since 1997). He was a judge at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for many years, and its president (elected 1999, re-elected 2002). During that time he contributed to some of the most important jurisprudence delivered by the Inter-American Court, which became clearly influential in the development of international law as we know it today.While at the ICJ, Cançado Trindade was what Justice Bader Ginsburg was to the US Supreme Court: "the Great Dissenter". He wrote for future generations of international law scholars and his Dissenting Opinions aspired to one day become the dominant view. He delivered the General Course on Public International Law at the Hague Academy of International Law in 2005, International Law for Humankind: Towards a New Jus Gentium. The Second Amendment has long been the subject of myriad court cases, at both the state and federal levels. Chronologically presenting actual court decisions from the early 1800s through the present alongside contextual information and analysis, Donald J. This book explores how different legal systems handle a particularly difficult type of corporate wrongdoing: Catholic dioceses' responsibility for child sexual abuse. Usually, when people think about corporate wrongdoing, they think about tax fraud, insider trading, and similar 'white-collar' crime. As corporations, dioceses' responsibility for child sexual abuse exists separately from that of individual perpetrators, and this corporate responsibility is the focus of this book. Through an analysis of cases involving dioceses that have significant documented histories of priests abusing children, this book illustrates how criminal law, canon law, tort law, bankruptcy law and an Australian Royal Commission have responded (or why they have not). The cases involve the Diocese of Ballarat, in Victoria, Australia, and the Diocese of Gallup, in northern Arizona and New Mexico, in the United States. Each diocese faced similar claims in a diverse field of legal systems, so very different legal systems were handling, in essence, the same cases in dissimilar contexts. Employing a novel interdisciplinary approach, the book traces the theories, purposes, doctrines, procedures, and logistics of engaging with these different legal systems - evaluating what they can and cannot do. Revitalising theories of responsive law, the book demonstrates that it is possible for legal systems to better hold not just Catholic dioceses, but corporations more generally, to account for wrongdoing, but we may need to rethink how those systems are structured.

This book analyzes the rhetorical and ethical dynamics of a culture of jihadi cool/chic, and why these rhetorical and aesthetic techniques have been such a powerful recruitment force for particular transnational terrorist groups. The author uses an evidence-based approach, with frameworks derived from law, politics, philosophy, rhetoric, feminist theory, and communication studies, to examine various attempts to construct counter-narratives to the jihadi cool master narrative.
