Asian Yearbook of International Economic Law

The Asian Yearbook of International Economic Law (AYIEL) 2025 addresses the rapidly evolving field of international economic law with a special focus on Asia and the Pacific. With the rapidly changing geopolitical situation, protectionist measures have been taken by many countries, which has caused significant impact on international economic governance. Given the importance of Asia and the Pacific, it is necessary to study on trade protectionism and its impacts especially from a regional perspective.

Those of us who identify as multi-cultural and exist in-between and across places, spaces, cultures and languages are in search of poetic means to understand and represent the experiences of being an insider-outsider. This volume responds to that challenge: taking Venice and the Veneto as a creative site, the author demonstrates how poetry focussed on hybrid, interstitial subjectivity can be mapped into this storied location. Using the structuring metaphor of the archipelago, the book exemplifies how the islands of the Venetian lagoon reflect the way that poetry - as individual works that coalesce to form a focussed collection - can be used to create a cartography of the self that is multiple but interconnected. Drawing upon scholarship around literary nomadism, flânerie, self-translation and cultural geography, the author shows how a personal relationship to a creative space opens a Third Space that challenges fixed ideas about belonging, alienation and nationality. In doing so, in-between-ness is revealed as a generative position from which to write and translate poetry.

A Poet’s Guide to Venice and the Veneto

One hundred and six poems of self-reflection and exquisite beauty—an intoxicating blend of Seon Buddhism and French Symbolism from one of South Korea's most celebrated and influential poets That summer I stood in the centers of storms That summer my despair burst out into crimson but still I weathered the wind and rain Mountains, rivers, trees, flowers, the dark, a cat, a train. In the elemental forms and figures of our world, Lee Seong-bok finds repositories for thought, sounding boards against which he can test his reflections. Again and again, in sequences, he probes his subjects—five “Mountain Path” poems, three “River” poems, three commentaries on the I Ching— not to solicit answers, like Moses impatiently striking the rock for water, but to savor the muted tones that echo in response. After one ruckus / begins another / The silent forest vibrates // Suffering was always / new suffering The poems of That Summer’s End, though acutely conscious of the self, are free of an inhibiting self-consciousness, speaking directly of youth, love, fear, family, grief, old age, impermanence, and all that’s central to life. As enticing as they are profound, Lee Seong-bok’s poems have made him not only a poet’s poet but a favorite of RM, leader of K-pop superstars BTS, whose support of his work on social media has brought him international attention.

That Summer's End

What does it mean to be governed and what does it mean to resist? Examining how communities form amidst social and political turbulence, this open access book presents four case studies that demonstrate the power of organic social formations over imposed order. Understanding this formation of community in terms of 'ungovernability' and a 'poetics of resistance',Ungovernable Spaces charts a movement from oppression, through transformation, into imagining, and finally emergence. Throughout the book, the authors engage methods of situated practice and related modes of writing and image-making to consider a range of global case studies: the destruction of the Mecca apartment building in Chicago's South Side in 1952, following a decade of resistance from the building's predominantly African American occupants; M.K. Gandhi's practices of social activism including the Salt March protest of 1930, and the daily practice of spinning and intermittent fasts; the Ciudad Abierta (Open City), a radical pedagogical experiment started by a poet and an architect in Valparaíso, Chile in 1970; and, finally, the urban ecologies developing on either side of Belfast's 'peace walls' in the wake of the Troubles and 1998's Good Friday Agreement. Structured via four spatial configurations - the grid, the charkha, the constellation, and the cluster -each case study explores community formation through artistic and aesthetic practices that resist and unsettle forms of hegemonic order. A truly interdisciplinary work at the intersection of poetry, art and spatial practice, Ungovernable Spaces argues for the importance of ethics, aesthetics, imagination and ecology in developing, of necessity, a new poetics of 'us.' The Asian Yearbook of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law

A hands-on guide for poets who want to make work beyond the page. How can a poem become an image, a soundscape, a performance, an erasure, a tactile object, or a digital encounter? A Writer's Guide to Multimodal Poetry brings together poets, visual artists, editors, publishers, and teachers working across the expanding field of multimodal poetics. Pairing examples of artists' work with craft essays and writing exercises, this collection gives readers practical ways to combine poetry with visual art, sound, music, movement, archive, found materials, digital media, and performance. Contributors share the tools, choices, and compositional processes behind their work, from blending text and image to experimenting with rhythm, translating across media, using erasure and collage, and designing interactive or embodied reading experiences. Rather than treating multimodal poetry as an add-on to traditional forms, this book shows how medium itself can become part of the poem's thinking. The essays explore audio-modality, image-text hybrids, musical influence, alphanumeric translation, lyrical improvisation, neo-concrete poetry, archival practice, found poetry, mythic reimagining, tactile experience, and more. Designed for writers, artists, students, and teachers, A Writer's Guide to Multimodal Poetry offers both inspiration and instruction: a field-defining introduction to multimodal poetics and a practical invitation to make poems that move through sight, sound, touch, space, and screen.

The Nile Cruise

In early 2022, Charlie Walker set out to hike 600 miles along the frozen rivers of Siberia. He hoped to cut through the myth of the gulag and the permafrost to understand who its people are and how they reckon with their haunted past, as well as what the future might hold for this remote corner of our world. But on 24 February, Russia invaded Ukraine, with devastating consequences. What had begun as an adventure swiftly descended into a paranoid nightmare, as Walker began to suspect he was being monitored by the Russian authorities. Shortly afterwards he was arrested and imprisoned. On Thin Ice juxtaposes the harsh beauty of a Siberian winter with a thriller-like series of events that exposes the dark heart of Putin's propaganda machine. It is both the extraordinary record of one man's walk through the most inhospitable place on earth and a powerful insight into a deeply troubled - and troubling - nation.

In early 2022, Charlie Walker set off to walk 600 miles along the frozen rivers of Siberia to learn more about the world’s coldest inhabited region and the people who live there. Instead, he found himself marooned in a country on the brink of war. He was arrested on suspicion espionage and thrown into a Siberian prison - this is his story.
