Die staatliche Alterssicherung steht vor großen Herausforderungen. In den nächsten Jahren werden die geburtenstarken Jahrgänge ins Rentenalter eintreten. Dies wird die Kosten der Alterssicherung rapide ansteigen lassen. Zugleich werden zunehmend Jahrgänge ins Rentenalter kommen, die in ihren Biografien Phasen von Niedrigverdienst und
Langzeitarbeitslosigkeit aufweisen. Das Thema Altersarmut wird vor diesem Hintergrund an Bedeutung zunehmen. Zugleich wird das Anfang der 2000er Jahre von der rotgrünen
Regierung durchgesetzte neue "Drei-Säulen-Paradigma" in der Alterssicherung mehr und mehr unter Legitimationsdruck geraten, weil sich seine Ausgangslage verändert hat. Das Zinsniveau ist seit Jahren niedrig und die private Vorsorge hat insgesamt stark an Attraktivität eingebüßt.
Dieses Buch bietet eine systematische Einführung in Grundfragen und Grundbegriffe der Alterssicherung. Es macht die überaus komplexe Thematik durchschaubar und kann dadurch zur Versachlichung der sozialstaatlichen Debatte in diesem Bereich beitragen. Für die 4. Auflage wurde es aktualisiert.
