Der Band 'Geschichte der Ungarn im Burgenland' will den Anstoß für das Schließen einer Forschungslücke geben, indem &nbsp;darin die Bedeutung der Ungarn im Burgenland in Geschichte und Gegenwart inter- und transdisziplinär analysiert wird. Es geht dabei um die Entwicklung der heutigen ungarischen Volksgruppe&nbsp;im Laufe von etwa eintausend Jahren und um den damit einhergehenden volatilen&nbsp;Prozess der Regionsbildung. Das Interesse gilt dabei der historischen Tatsache, dass das Burgenland - vormals Westungarn -&nbsp;sich&nbsp;von einer durch Ungarn besiedelten und bewohnten Region, in der sie als Ethnie eine Mehrheitsgesellschaft bildeten, zu einer neuen politischen Realität&nbsp;wandelte, in der die Ungarn innerhalb der Region eine Minderheit als Volksgruppe darstellen. Jede Region stellt sich als fließender Raum dar, der sich im Lauf der Zeit in vielerlei Hinsicht verändert: politisch, funktional, sozial, kulturell. Im Fokus des Bandes stehen Fragestellungen zu den Auslösern und Konsequenzen dieser Veränderungen.&nbsp;Die Relevanz der vorliegenden Publikation liegt im Bemühen um Beantwortungen konkreter Fragen zu Identitätsbildung, Regionalentwicklung auf den Gebieten von Politik, Verwaltung und Wirtschaft, Geschichtsschreibung und Geschichtsrezeption, Konstruktion und Wahrnehmung der Region in der ungarischen Literatur und Kultur sowie zu sozialen Entwicklungsläufen und relevanten Repräsentationskulturen.

Inmitten der Zeit des 2. Weltkriegs suchen vier ungarische Freunde, drei davon jüdischer Herkunft, nach Hoffnung, Orientierung, Kraft und dem Sinn ihres Lebens. Während siebzehn Monaten überliefert eine von ihnen, Hanna Dallos, bildende Künstlerin und Lehrerin, Botschaften, die von Gitta Mallasz und Lili Strausz in direkter Mitschrift notiert werden. Diese Überlieferungen, welche die vier Freunde ursprünglich als "Unterweisungen" bezeichnen, finden mit der Deportation von Hanna Dallos und Lili Strausz im Dezember 1944 von Budapest nach Ravensbrück ihr abruptes Ende.Gitta Mallasz überlebt als einzige der Freunde den 2. Weltkrieg und veröffentlicht die gemeinsam gemachte Erfahrung erstmals im Jahr 1976 in französischer Sprache. Es handelt sich um ein einzigartiges Dokument über eine Sinnsuche und das Streben nach einem neuen, wahren, lichterfüllten Leben inmitten der nationalsozialistischen Dunkelheit und Grausamkeit. This book traces the evolution of financial assistance in the European Union, from the outbreak of the sovereign debt crisis in 2009 to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Each of these shocks generated wide-ranging economic and political repercussions that demanded rapid and often unprecedented EU financial assistance to support member states and partner countries.The book examines how EU institutions and national governments shaped the development of emergency financial instruments across the three crises. It follows the establishment and governance of key borrowing mechanisms – from the European Stability Mechanism to the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the Security Action for Europe, and the Ukraine Facility – to show how earlier experiences informed subsequent reforms. The analysis highlights an apparent shift in the governance of EU financial assistance, from a model centred on intergovernmental coordination to one increasingly marked by supranational delegation.The book will appeal to all those interested in European studies, public policy, political economy and public administration.Andrea Capati

While the importance of data to the economy and society has been widely acknowledged, the policy processes behind data legislation remain underexplored. This study closes that gap by applying the Multiple Streams Approach to understand how the Data Act progressed from a largely absent issue to a legislative priority, and how it was rapidly adopted despite its complexity and scope.

Anlässlich des 70. Geburtstags von Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Karl-Peter Sommermann würdigt diese Festschrift seine umfassende wissenschaftliche Arbeit. Seit Beginn seiner akademischen Laufbahn forscht der Geehrte zu grundlegenden Fragen der Rechtsvergleichung, des ausländischen öffentlichen Rechts, der Transnationalisierung sowie zu den Grundprinzipien und Werten des nationalen Verfassungs- und Verwaltungsrechts. Sein Werk ist geprägt von Außenperspektiven auf das nationale Recht, einem tiefen Verständnis der Prozesse der Internationalisierung und Europäisierung sowie der Entwicklung des nationalen öffentlichen Rechts im transnationalen Kontext. An diese Aspekte knüpft der vorliegende Band an. In The Permanent Problem, Brink Lindsey reshapes our understanding of the vital but complex relationship between material prosperity and human flourishing. The advanced capitalist democracies of the 21st century are the richest, freest, healthiest, best educated, and best governed societies in history. Why then does it seem like everything is falling apart? Economic stagnation is spreading, class divisions are deepening, birth rates are collapsing, mental health problems are on the rise, faith in democracy is in decline, and pessimism about the future abounds. In The Permanent Problem, Brink Lindsey argues that these gathering difficulties reflect the stresses and strains of a great and uncompleted historical transition-from mass material prosperity to mass human flourishing. Capitalism's immense productive powers have raised our expectations of what life can be, but for most of us reality is coming up short. What's more, the arrival of mass prosperity has pushed both economic and cultural change in directions that make the transition to mass flourishing much harder to achieve. According to Lindsey, 21st century capitalism is in the grip of three interrelated crises: a crisis of inclusion, as vital social ties and personal connections are breaking down; a crisis of dynamism, as capitalism's engines of innovation and wealth creation have begun to sputter and seize; and a crisis of politics, as the mechanisms for collective decision-making needed to address capitalism's growing problems have been degraded by the very same dynamics that underlie those problems. A much brighter future is possible, and Lindsey charts an intriguing path to get there. There is no need to concoct a radical new social system. Instead, capitalism needs to be refocused on its core mission of extending the technological frontier, and rebalanced through the revitalization of face-to-face communities. This edited volume represents a significant contribution to the academic discourse on the role of good faith in constitutional law. By assembling scholars from various countries who explore different aspects of the subject, the book provides a comprehensive comparative and constitutional theory analysis explaining the idea of good faith in constitutional law. The book consists of three main parts, preceded by an introductory and methodological chapter that outlines the research problem and initial findings.
The first part examines the origins of good faith in public law and its historical sources. This section introduces the reader to the idea of good faith in jurisprudence and legal tradition and its current application in public law, which includes constitutional law. This part focusses on three key points of reference: international treaty law, where good faith governs the formation and performance of international agreements; EU law, where good faith or "loyal cooperation" shapes the relationship between member states and EU institutions; and the Council of Europe's human rights system, in particular the European Court of Human Rights, where good faith considerations appear in assessing the compatibility of state action with fundamental rights. This section therefore provides a basic background for understanding constitutional good faith. The second part explores constitutional good faith in selected legal systems. The choice of jurisdictions for comparative analysis is not accidental. First, it includes countries where good faith is explicitly enshrined in constitutional provisions, and thus is a normative concept with a well-defined meaning. Second, it includes countries where good faith appears in constitutional jurisprudence or academic debate. The last part analyzes good faith through the lens of constitutional theory, focusing on key areas relevant to the interpretation and application of constitutional law, in particular the theory of constitutional interpretation, the principle of separation of powers, including the vertical division of powers and the judiciary, as well as the relationships between the state and individuals.
The book is being prepared with funds from the National Science Center in Poland for the project "Good Faith in Constitutional Law" (project no. 2020/39/B/HS5/02298).
