This book encompasses topics from the fundamentals of disease related protein misfolding and mass spectrometry, to current research highlights in these areas. It is aimed to provide an overview of this rapidly developing field in order to present a good mixture of information that will encourage people to participate in, and further the use of mass spectrometry in studying protein misfolding with biologically relevant applications. Using examples from the current literature, the book focuses on details relating to understanding the fundamentals of disease related protein misfolding, conducting and optimising the mass spectrometry experiment, and also future prospects of methodologies within this rapidly evolving and topical research area.

Fiber-Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing: Principles and Applications addresses the fundamentals of fiber optic distributed acoustic sensors (DAS) and their most important application fields. It is divided into three parts, the first of which covers the theoretical aspects of the working principle of DAS technology, including the description of the main optical components used for DAS monitoring, concepts of Rayleigh scattering, and approaches for resolving the spatial information based on optical time-domain and optical frequency-domain reflectometry. The second part focuses on the different interrogation techniques existing today, including dedicated signal processing and other advanced methods for enhancing sensing performance. The third part of the book is devoted to the main industrial applications of DAS technology, such as structural health monitoring, security, geophysical studies and seismic monitoring, including also relevant aspects related to the industrial standardization of the technology. Russlands (ab 1992), wobei in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren noch der Ost-West-Konflikt dominierte, während man in den 1990er Jahren zu einer Ost-West-Kooperation überging. Die beiden Schwerpunkte der Darstellung sind einerseits die Raumstationen, d. h. die sowjetisch-russischen Saljut und Mir sowie das amerikanische Konkurrenzprojekt Freedom. Den zweiten Schwerpunkt bilden die Raumfähren, d. h. das amerikanische Space-Shuttle und der sowjetische Buran. Den Höhepunkt der internationalen Zusammenarbeit bildete das gemeinsame Programm Shuttle-Mir. In diesem Zusammenhang werden auch die westeuropäischen Beiträge Spacelab und Euromir ausführlich behandelt.&nbsp; Der 1. Band befasst sich mit der Pionierzeit der Raumfahrt bis 1975 von den Anfängen bis zum Wettlauf ins All mit der Mondlandung als Höhepunkt. Der 3. Band wird sich mit der Raumfahrt im 21.
