Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40 Protection of the Environment

Title 40 presents regulations governing care of the environment from the 14 subchapters of Chapter I and from the provisions regarding the Council on Environmental Quality found in Chapter V. Programs addressing air, water, pesticides, radiation protection, and noise abatement are included. Practices for waste and toxic materials disposal and clean-up are also prescribed. Additions and revisions to this section of the code are posted annually by July. Publication follows within six months.

International environmental law in the form of multilateral environmental agreements has over the last four decades emerged as the preferred avenue to address inter-state environmental issues that either cross state boundaries, materialize beyond national jurisdictions or are of genuinely global nature such as climate change.This book analyses the possibilities as well as the limitations of environmental treaty making between states. This volume contains all the papers presented during the working session of the Section for Comparative Commercial and Business Law at the 39th Conference of the German Society for Comparative Law in Berlin. Today, the European Union (EU) and the Organisation pour l'harmonisation en Afrique du droit des affaires (OHADA) are the two most integrated supranational organisations in the world. On the one hand, OHADA was institutionally modelled on the EU. But on the other hand, based on an essentially French legal tradition, OHADA was able to go much further in the unification of commercial law, as evidenced by meanwhile eleven Uniform Acts relating to principally all aspects of commercial law. 140 years after the beginning of the so-called Berlin Conference concerning the Scramble for Africa this comparative approach also reflects the paradigm shift in the relationship between Europe and Africa.

This book is the first investigation of the relationship between EU digital sovereignty and sustainability strategies. It maps the ambitions and limitations of EU digital strategic autonomy and explores the structural challenges underlying its relationship with its green transition objectives in the context of the ongoing wars in neighbouring European countries and the consequent tensions in the EU energy sector. The EU is racing to achieve technological independence from third countries and foreign multinational companies to protect its digital sovereignty and preserve its fundamental rights.
