International Perspectives on Migration

This book explores the role of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) among migrant communities in the UK. It examines how diverse cultural practices, from life celebrations to death commemorations, have travelled with communities, evolved in new settings, and taken root in the UK. Through case studies from different community groups, spanning oral traditions, performing arts, social customs, and craftsmanship, this book illustrates how ICH becomes a vital part of everyday life, identity, and belonging within the UK’s multicultural mosaic.

This book examines one of the most important questions in peace research: What leads to enduring peace after civil wars, and what leads to the resurgence of violence? For decades, intrastate conflicts have been the predominant form of armed conflict, and most recent civil wars were conflicts that recurred. The research presented in this book focuses on influenceable factors, first and foremost on the type of civil war termination and on the post-civil war order that is shaped by the distribution of military power between the former warring parties and the scale of political compromise. Moreover, it shows that the peacekeeping environment has a major influence on whether peace endures. The insights provided in this book are relevant for the academic community, and for decision-makers and practitioners involved in civilian or military efforts to establish and preserve peace.

How do idealistic projects for shaping the world relate to the actual political organization of world politics? The contributors to this volume provide a fresh perspective on the formation of order in world politics. They develop and utilize the concept of ¿Worldmaking Projects¿ (WMPs). These are projects that throughout history have sought to advance specific visions of order, such as national, imperial, or international. A particular emphasis is put on the central, yet often overlooked role that infrastructures&nbsp;play&nbsp;in this regard. The nexus between infrastructures and worldmaking is explored in relation to different Worldmaking Projects, including those in the air and in space, as well as in the polar regions.
