Das Vereinigte Königreich setzte diesen Appell im Jahr 2000 mit Einrichtung des "Spoliation Advisory Panel" (SAP) um, das seither einen Streitbeilegungsmechanismus bietet, um auf die Ansprüche Berechtigter zu reagieren. Dieser Band nimmt die 22 Empfehlungen in den Blick, die das Panel bislang ausgesprochen hat. Die Entscheidungen werden vor dem Hintergrund der englischen Rechtstradition und -praxis sowie der historischen Rolle des Vereinigten Königreichs analysiert, systematisiert und einem abstrakten Regelwerk zugeführt. Die so sichtbar gemachte Entscheidungslinie des SAP kann als Diskussions- und Vergleichsgrundlage für die Restitutionspraxen anderer Staaten herangezogen werden.

Facing the Child investigates the technocratic expertise in the policing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Mitali Thakor argues that CSAM has come to be framed as primarily a digital problem, to be resolved digitally, thereby unleashing a new form of corporatized policing helmed by global technology companies. Ambitious in scope, this multi-sited global ethnography draws on four years of original fieldwork and interviews with technology companies in the US, the United Nations in Bangkok, Thai and Dutch NGOs, and law enforcement in the US and the Netherlands. The book argues that in the 2010s, a network of technology companies, NGOs, and law enforcement created the notion of a “virtual child” in need of techno-solutionist saving to justify a vast expansion of surveillance technologies. The book examines how pervasive myths of child abuse online were exploited to serve the aims of seemingly disparate groups, from Christian neo-abolitionists to NGOs conducting virtual sting operations. It is this complex relationship between the care and securitization needed to fix the child victim as an object of data, concern, and rescue that the book explores.

Drawing on over a decade and a half of first-hand experience, leading legal scholar and feminist activist Marilyn Kamuru documents the important role African feminist organizing plays in defining and defending gender-equality policy in Kenya and beyond. Focusing on how constitutionally mandated gender quotas in Kenya's parliament are repeatedly violated by government failures, or outright refusals, to implement them, Kamuru brings out how Kenya's feminist activists--during the drafting of the 2010 constitution and in the years since--fight gender inequality in ways that go more to the heart of the problem than any conventional approach. Kenyan feminists, Kamuru argues, are unique in that they address not only the underrepresentation of women in politics, but also the overrepresentation of men. This distinct framing of the issue, now enshrined in the highly progressive 2010 constitution thanks to their efforts, poses a real threat to male dominance in government, and this is what accounts for its obstinate non-implementation. Kamuru's findings highlight the important questions that African feminism poses to global efforts towards gender equality. How do quotas really impact gender equity?
