Hill J: Kung Fu Bust

Kung Fu Bust

Independently published

The law, we are often told, is a neutral arbiter, a dispassionate structure designed for fairness. Patriarchy'S Law shatters this comforting fiction, revealing how legal systems, particularly family law, have been meticulously constructed to enshrine and perpetuate male control. This groundbreaking book exposes the deep-seated patriarchal architecture embedded within our legal framework, demonstrating that injustice is not an anomaly but a built-in feature, inherited from centuries of codified male dominance. Delving into the historical roots, the book meticulously unpacks concepts like coverture, where a woman's legal identity was subsumed by her husband, rendering her a legal non-entity. It traces the arduous journey of the women's rights movement, from the fight for married women's property acts and suffrage-demanding self-ownership and legal personhood-to the second wave's battle for reproductive rights and the criminalization of domestic violence. These struggles were not mere adjustments; they were revolutionary confrontations with a system designed to maintain female dependency and male authority. Patriarchy'S Law then extends its critical lens to contemporary manifestations, dissecting how this architectural legacy continues to shape modern legal landscapes. It scrutinizes the 'fatherhood movement' and the manufacturing of consent through biased research, revealing how the courtroom itself can become a profit center. The book examines the undermining of due process through administrative shortcuts, the dangerous imbalance between safety and access, and the systematic pathologizing of mothers and survivors. It exposes 'shared parenting' as a tool for control and highlights the evolving opposition to genuine gender equality, illustrating how legal structures are continuously adapted to maintain established power dynamics. This book offers an unparalleled advantage by providing a comprehensive, unflinching analysis of how legal precedents, policies, and practices actively reinforce male control. It equips readers with a critical understanding of the systemic nature of gender inequality within the law, moving beyond individual acts of discrimination to reveal the foundational biases. By connecting historical oppression to current challenges, Patriarchy'S Law empowers readers to recognize the subtle yet pervasive ways legal systems perpetuate patriarchal norms, offering clarity in complex and often emotionally charged legal debates. By engaging with Patriarchy'S Law, you will gain: - A profound understanding of the historical and contemporary legal mechanisms of male control. - The ability to critically analyze legal arguments and policies through a feminist lens. - Empowerment to challenge and advocate against systemic gender bias in legal settings. - Insight into the ongoing struggle for self-ownership and autonomy within the legal system. - Tools to recognize and resist the legal architecture that perpetuates inequality, paving the way for systemic change.

Too Quick to Marry, Too Quick to Divorce

Too Quick to Marry, Too Quick to DivorceWhy do so many relationships begin with passion, promise, and plans for forever-only to end in frustration, resentment, and divorce? In Too Quick to Marry, Too Quick to Divorce, attorney and author Danielle M. Key takes a candid look at the decisions couples make both before marriage and when their marriages begin to struggle. Drawing on years of experience working with individuals and families navigating relationships, separation, custody, and divorce, she explores a difficult truth: sometimes people rush into marriage without truly understanding the person they are marrying-and then rush out of marriage without fully understanding what went wrong.Through real-world observations, and practical insight, Too Quick to Marry, Too Quick to Divorce examines the warning signs people overlook while dating, the conversations couples should have before saying "I do," and the expectations about love, money, family, intimacy, children, careers, and communication that can quietly create conflict after the wedding. But this is not simply a book about avoiding divorce. It is about making better decisions about love.Whether you are dating, engaged, newly married, struggling in a long-term relationship, contemplating divorce, or trying to understand the lessons of a relationship that has already ended, this book challenges you to slow down and ask the questions that matter. Before you marry, understand what you are committing to. Before you divorce, understand what you are walking away from.Marriage should not be entered into simply because you are in love. Divorce should not be pursued simply because marriage has become difficult. Somewhere between "I do" and "I'm done" are the conversations, choices, compromises, boundaries, and truths that can determine whether a relationship survives.Too Quick to Marry, Too Quick to Divorce is an insightful and thought-provoking guide for anyone who wants to choose a partner more wisely, build a healthier marriage, recognize when a relationship can be repaired-and understand when it may truly be time to let go.

Lessons from a Divorce Attorney

By exploring the historic development of marriage laws and changing relationship norms in England, Qatar and Australia; the legal treatment of religious-only unions in light of the family law regime in each country, and the impact of non-recognition, this book reveals the complexities of the law reform needed to tackle these issues. This examination of the differing outcomes for couples who live in England/Wales where cohabitants have no legal rights, Australia where cohabitants do benefit from some legal protections, and Qatar, a Muslim majority state with a modern family law regime which ordinarily recognises religious marriages provides a broad canvas for exploring this issue in depth. The book looks at this very complex issue from a range of perspectives including autonomy, cultural transitions and legal pluralism. It examines the issue of religious-only marriages in order to convey the complex and interwoven narrative which signifies how multifaceted law reform must be in order to adequately respond to these transitioning relationship norms in any given jurisdiction. Of course, relationship norms are not static and they continue to evolve. In light of changing norms and practices, the theoretical framework for this book focuses on the concept of 'liminality' or transition, which is being witnessed in the processes and formalities by which Muslims are entering their marriages.

This book examines the present state of family law in America. This third edition captures recent developments, including the transformation of the institution of marriage to encompass same-sex marriage. In the discussion of same-sex marriage, Professor Katz analyses each opinion, majority and dissenting, in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges, the United States Supreme Court case that lifted the ban on same-sex marriage.

Themes include the tension between individual autonomy and governmental regulation in all aspects of family law, the extent to which relationships established before marriage are being regulated, and how marriage is being redefined to take into account gender equality and the legal recognition of same-sex marriage. It demonstrates how the definition of marriage as a partnership in which the individual spouse's rights are recognized has resulted in protection of the vulnerable spouse. It also examines fault and no-fault divorce procedures and the extent to which these procedures reflect social realities. This volume describes state intervention into the parent and child relationship and how this is reflected in the re-examination of the privacy of the family unit. It concludes with a discussion of the conventional model of adoption of children and how new assisted reproductive technologies are having an impact on family formation, particularly adoption, to take into account new family forms.

This book is a highly readable presentation of the laws regulating family relationships in the United States, placing them in their historical and cultural contexts. This third edition captures recent developments, including the transformation of the institution of marriage to encompass same-sex marriage.

Tracing the campaign for marriage equality, this book highlights how this movement and the related referendum result have propelled Ireland from a country perceived as one repressed and controlled by the Catholic church to a country that is now admired as a leader in equality of human rights.

Representing Federal Employees and Their Spouses in Divorce

Boom Eleven International

"What exactly is the arranged marriage?" That is the central question that this book evolves around. The author argues that the arranged marriage is often misrepresented in academic literature as it is generally analyzed through a Eurocentric lens. This is not a neutral lens. The Eurocentric frame perceives the free-choice marriage system as the ideal. As a result, the arranged marriage is perceived to be a lesser marital tradition, a "marriage of shortcomings", one that fails to meet the standards of the free-choice marriage system. The author invites readers to break this frame and to study the arranged marriage and its dynamics with fresh eyes. Filling an academic gap, Tahir's book provides a unique critical examination of the social principles that lie at the heart of the arranged marriage system, such as guardianship, hierarchical interdependence, group loyalty, marriage and risk management, and the role of parental authority in the promotion of individual marital consent. Knowledge of these foundational principles will hugely contribute to an unbiased understanding of the arranged marriage and of the modernization the arranged marriage is currently undergoing. Breaking Eurocentric Frames on Arranged Marriage is a necessary and valuable handbook for understanding the cultural heritage of a marriage system that is practised by millions around the world.

Child abduction has impacted everyone from royalty to a-list movie stars. It is estimated that every year at least 500 children will be abducted from Australia, overseas. Many more will be abducted within our shores, making Australia one of the highest ranking parent-child abduction hotspots in the world.
The Child Snatchers takes an investigative look at some of Australia’s more notorious cases. Sally Faulkner, who found herself in a Beirut prison for trying to bring her children back to Australia; The four Vincenti sisters, brought to Australia and returned to Italy under traumatic circumstances; Dorothy Lee Barnett, wanted for abduction by the FBI for 20 years, finally found on the Sunshine Coast. Each of these stories are deeply personal, highly complex and frighteningly true. Were they a desperate act of protection; or a despicable act of revenge?
The Child Snatchers explores the too-often bitter nature of separation and divorce, and our heavy reliance on the overburdened Australian Family Law system. It brings you the heartfelt, true accounts of left-behind parents and the children they longed for. Some are heart-warming, successful recoveries; others may never see their children again. All will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew.
