The Finance Coach: Teach Yourself

Inhaltsangabe:Introduction:The construction industry is one of the most booming industries in the world. In particular, in the United Arab Emirates this industry has experienced a constant growth over the course of the last few years. Driven by the UAE?s oil wealth, the country has witnessed an unmatched development and transformation. Oil revenues have lead to a driving construction boom and completely change the face of the state. The construction industry is still one of the engines of economic growth in the UAE. One of the highest concentrations of cranes in the world speaks volumes about the incredible pace of construction taking place, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but also in the other emirates. The fact that about 30,000, or 24 percent of the world's 125,000 construction cranes are currently operating in the region speaks for itself. The UAE?s construction projects stands out clearly from building projects in other parts of the world, due to the fact that there is no constraint on constructional imagination and there is no place in the world where construction moves as fast as in the UAE. With some of the most innovative mega projects such as ?Burj Khalifa? (the tallest building in the world), or ?The Palm Jumeirah?, ?The Palm Jebel Ali? and ?The Palm Deira? (the world?s largest man-made islands) with epithets of world?s biggest, best, and tallest the UAE construction industry remains unbeaten. The construction industry is a complex environment in which each organization is faced with numerous opportunities and threats. This academic paper provides an in-depth analysis of the fast growing construction industry in the UAE, while scanning the construction business for opportunities and threats. This thesis implements the PESTEL analysis that will be used to analyze the UAE?s construction industry. The main objective of this paper is to identify the factors in the macro-environment that might affect an organization. Having the PESTEL context, this output is used to execute a SWOT analysis. The PESTEL factors combined with external micro-environmental factors are classified as opportunities and threats in a SWOT analysis. Thus, the thesis also aims to identify the opportunities and threats in the construction business. This academic paper does not assess company?s internal strengths and weaknesses.Through strategic analysis of the UAE?s construction business this paper creates an adequate framework that helps participants of the […]

Economics and Finance (R0)

This book offers a radical new way of approaching the Old Testament. Sigmund Wagner-Tsukamoto argues that rational, institutional and constitutional economic lessons can be derived from the Old Testament, with applications to social conflict and resolution. The book suggests that this religious text also anticipated many modern economic advances.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, University of applied sciences Frankfurt a. M., course: Master of Business Administration, language: English, abstract: This case study is about a company called Martinez Construction, a well-established construction company located in eastern Spain. The company was founded in the mid-1940s and has been in the hands of the Martinez family since then. Most probably the company was a small- to medium-sized enterprise (SME) with a limited amount of resources and capital operating in one country so far. After the fall of the Iron Curtain between Western and Eastern Europe and the reunion of West and East Germany (1989), Martinez Construction thought about the development of Germany as new foreign market for expanding their business operations.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Law - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Braunschweig / Wolfenbüttel; Salzgitter (Recht), course: International Construction Law, language: English, abstract: This paper deals with the impacts of the Sustainable Development Goals to the international standards of construction law. At first, the paper will give an overview about the nature of construction contracts and will describe two common forms of contracts: the International Federation of Consulting Engineers and the New Engineering Contract. In addition, there will be a description of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially about the Sustainable Development Goal 9: Built resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. Then, the paper deals with how the Sustainable Development Goals can be implemented in the construction industry and what framework is needed. Moreover there will be an example of the Bechtel Company, which already implemented sustainability in their construction projects and thus should be role model for other companies. In the end there will be a conclusion outlining how the construction industry has changed because of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Project Management for Building Construction

Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Law - Civil / Private / Trade / Anti Trust Law / Business Law, grade: 2,1, University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart, course: Business Law; Recht, language: English, abstract: This Master Thesis investigates and evaluates the legal framework for engineering firms to step into an ARGE partnership with other planning offices. ARGE, in German construction industry an established form of partnership, becomes more and more important in acquiring and accomplishing construction projects.ARGE underlies the regulations of the German Partnership under Civil Law. Consequently the ARGE partners are jointly and several liable for the contract to produce a work with the principal. Thus the principal reaches fundamental advantages: He reduces his risk concerning insolvency of an ARGE partner, he increases competition and he gets services from one hand.Engineering firms, who want to participate in these projects, have to handle their capacities and risks. Engineering firms are not interested in participating in ARGE partnerships. There is no reason for voluntary sharing of liability. Engineering firms want to be responsible and liable only for services they accomplish. They do not want to share the responsibility and liability with other construction planners. In external relationship with the principal, ARGE partners could not change the jointly and several liability.Principals will not deal about limitation of ARGE partners’ liability. However in internal arrangements could be defined other regulations.Beside the contract with the principal is the partnership agreement equally important. The ARGE agreement has to define the purpose of the partnership, the bodies of the partnership with their responsibilities and the services the partners have to accomplish for the ARGE. Partners have to be careful concerning liability. Partners should ensure in internal relationship that they are only responsible for services they had accomplished. It is advisable to define other regulations in the ARGE agreement than the terms in law. For example, partners should define a fulfilment obligation, due to claim for damages by theprincipal. In case of insolvency of one partner, the other partners have still to fulfil the contract with the principal. If there are services they cannot carry out by themselves, theyhave to integrate other partners.Engineering firms have to weigh within the framework of their business risk, if they are interested in acquiring the contract under the precondition to participate in an ARGE partnership. Capacity utilization is just important as the choice of partner.

Especially in developing countries small scale industries considered as a backbone of their economies. In regard of this, the study intends to examine the challenges and prospects of Micro and Small enterprises in construction sector, specifically on the construction material producer enterprises in Yeka and Bole sub-cities. To satisfy the objectives of this study, descriptive and inferential analyses were used. The information was collected from the sample of 150 MSEs with face to face interviews. The sampled MSEs were selected by simple random sampling technique. Besides that, the study draws out with nine key challenges which seem to influence the profitability of MSEs in both sub-cities. The results point to that, there is a strong relationship between the independent and dependent variable. Furthermore, the selected explanatory variables may significantly explain the variations of the explained variance at 5% and 10% level of significance. Based on the results, financial, managerial, raw material, work premises and technologies are the main challenges of MSEs, those to be profitable and successful.
