Multilateral environmental agreements have over the last four decades emerged as the preferred avenue to address inter-state environmental issues such as climate change. This book analyses the possibilities as well as the limitations of environmental treaty making between states. The book considers the structures and processes that lead to the successful adoption of the Paris Agreement - and contrasting them with other attempts that failed in bringing states together under a legally-binding solution. Christina Voigt explores the whole "life-cycle" of multilateral environmental agreements. Also emphasised is the impact of emerging economies in shaping international environmental regimes.

Multilateralism has been increasingly accepted as the modus operandi in world politics, and in global environmental politics in particular. International environmental law in the form of multilateral environmental agreements has over the last four decades emerged as the preferred avenue to address inter-state environmental issues that either cross state boundaries, materialize beyond national jurisdictions or are of genuinely global nature such as climate change.This book analyses the possibilities as well as the limitations of environmental treaty making between states. The book considers the structures and processes that lead to the successful adoption of the Paris Agreement – and contrasting them with other attempts that failed in bringing states together under a legally-binding solution. Christina Voigt explores the whole "life-cycle" of multilateral environmental agreements, from diplomatic exchanges, to treaty negotiations, to analyses of the treaty text, non-compliance mechanisms and finally to recourse to courts. It also emphasises the strong impact of the sovereign powers of emerging economies such as China and Brazil on the shaping of international environmental regimes.

Stefan Wagenpfeil&nbsp;ist Professor für Software-Engineering und IT-Management an der PFH Göttingen. Er ist Mitglied der VR/AR Coalition und berät die EU-Kommission in Fragen der Künstlichen Intelligenz und Virtuellen Realität. It examines how architecture can act as a catalyst for social transformation, territorial belonging, and autonomy in rural communities historically affected by the conflict. Through a qualitative, multi-method approach grounded in participatory action research, the study develops a theoretical model of architectural design for transitions, applies it to case studies in San José del Guaviare—a region emblematic of Colombia’s post-conflict dynamics—and formulates practical design tools to support peacebuilding. By analyzing projects such as the Development Programs with Territorial Focus (PDET) and the Territorial Spaces for Training and Reincorporation (ETCR), the research identifies both achievements and challenges in the implementation of built interventions. The findings highlight that effective architecture for peace must transcend technical problem-solving to integrate localized, participatory, and adaptive practices that strengthen community agency and ensure the sustainability of peace initiatives. Ultimately, the book positions architecture as an essential instrument in Colombia’s transition toward peace, emphasizing the need for context-sensitive methodologies that interweave design, social justice, and the non-repetition of violence.
