Influencing Today's Youth

Die deutsche Wiedervereinigung jährte sich zuletzt zum 35. Mal. Bald wird die Wende älter sein, als die DDR je wurde. Und trotzdem gibt es diese imaginäre Grenze zwischen Ost und West, die sogar die nach der Wende geborene Generation spürt. Sie macht sich nicht nur in sozialen und kulturellen Unterschieden bemerkbar, sondern auch in Bezug auf Einkommen, Vermögen und Jobchancen.Die Beschäftigung mit diesen anhaltenden Differenzen ist für junge Menschen mit Osthintergrund mit vielen Fragen verbunden: Welche Spuren haben die DDR und die deutsch-deutsche Teilung hinterlassen? Behindert eine ostdeutsche Identität den Wiedervereinigungsprozess oder ist sie eine legitime deutsche Teilidentität? Wie gehen wir mit dem Wahlverhalten in Ostdeutschland um? Sollen wir bleiben oder gehen?
 In 
 Postwendekinder
 erheben diese jungen Menschen ihre Stimme und rechnen mit eindimensionalen Bildern wie dem des Jammerossis oder Neonazis ab. Gleichzeitig grenzen sie sich von "Ostalgie" und rassistischen Ideologien ab und eröffnen stattdessen vielfältige, differenzierte Sichtweisen auf den 'Osten'. 34 Autor*innen und Künstler*innen nehmen die Lesenden in Form von persönlichen Erzählungen, Essays und visuellen Beiträgen auf eine vielschichtige Perspektivreise mit.
 
 Sie erkunden ihre (post-)sozialistische Prägung und die Ambivalenzen ihres Ostdeutsch-Seins, thematisieren die bis heute sichtbaren strukturellen Brüche, die mit dem Beitritt der DDR zur BRD einhergingen, hinterfragen die recht(sextrem)en Tendenzen in Ostdeutschland und suchen nach einer solidarischen und gleichberechtigten deutsch-deutschen Zukunft.

 schafft einen Raum der Reflexion und Diskussion, der Brücken zwischen Ost und West schlägt.

Ng¿g¿ wa Thiong'o is Kenya's most prolific writer. He was born in Limuru (Central Kenya) in 1938 and educated at Makerere University (Uganda) and Leeds University (UK). He is well known internationally as a novelist, a playwright and a literary critic. His novels, aWeep Not, Child (1964), The River Between (1965), A Grain of Wheat (1967), Petals of Blood (1977) and Devil on the Cross (1980), have established him firmly in the world literary scene. He has had an impact with the
plays The Black Hermit (1968), 'This Time Tomorrow' (published in Short African Plays) and The Trial of Dedan Kimathi (1976), written with Mðcere Gðthae Møgo. Ng¿g¿ wa M¿ri¿ was born in Rolomo, Limuru in 1951. He was educated in Ngenia Secondary School and, from 1972 to 1974, worked with Kenya Posts and Telecommunications. He took a Diploma in Adult Education at the Institute of Adult Studies, University of Nairobi, and then joined the Institute for Development Studies. Whilst working at the Institute, he became involved with peasants and workers in Community Development at Kamirithu, Limuru.
