Hope. How street dogs taught me the meaning of life

Harbison N: Hope

Hope

Imprinted traces literacy and Caribbean literary culture from the late nineteenth century to today. Imprinted is a history of literacy and the development of a literary culture in the Caribbean from the late 19th century to contemporary times. It explores the places and spaces of such a cultural journey, during and after the colonial period. Entwined within this critique is the story of the author's own reading history, from a child reader devouring the books (Black Power heroes and romance fiction) in her family home in Dominica to the concerns of a literary scholar of a digital age.

Clozapine as the Gold Standard: A Story of Hope for Patients, Families and Clinicians is a fascinating look at the convoluted development and clinical journey of clozapine, and a compelling argument for greater accessibility for millions of patients worldwide likely to benefit from this highly effective antipsychotic and suicide prevention medication. It is about hope, perseverance and the continuing fight to bring this often life-changing drug to those who need it.The book is written by two key figures in the clozapine saga: the researcher who developed it for US release and a psychiatrist who early advocated for its use. Vivid case vignettes illustrate real-life struggles by patients and families against the terrible scourge of severe mental illness, and their often-frustrated efforts to get meaningful help. It explains the need for clozapine, the barriers to and hope for effective treatment-the good, sometimes the bad and occasionally the ugly-in terms everyone can understand. It bridges the gap between patients and families and the doctors who must make every effort to offer those patients the most effective treatment available. This book should help huge numbers of patients and every mental health professional and clinical trainee who doesn't know the whole story. It is for anyone who cares about the struggle of those living with schizophrenia or a similar disorder - loved ones, mental health advocates, clinicians, and patients.

Clozapine as the Gold Standard

Christine Lagarde is a woman of firsts: first female head of the IMF, first female President of the ECB - and all without a classic career path through the world of finance. In her first autobiography, she recounts her rise, her successes and setbacks, and her fight against prejudice. It sheds light on the great crises of the global economy, her courageous decisions, and her distinctive perspective on power, emancipation, and change. Complemented by the voices of her most important companions, the result is a multifaceted portrait of a woman who breaks boundaries and consistently challenges the status quo.
