Dietrich W: Glaube, Geschichte, Führung
und Verführung

Glaube, Geschichte, Führung und Verführung

Richard Hoenen und die Freien evangelischen Gemeinden

Many people remain unaware of the scale and urgency of Africa’s food crisis, in part because current

policies fail to capture its full complexity. This crisis is shaped by a tangled web of natural and human-

made factors, and without a comprehensive, systems-level approach, meaningful solutions remain out

of reach. Tackling this involves concentrated policies that go beyond technical fixes—it demands

coordinated efforts that bridge sectors, disciplines, and national borders.

Using the metaphor of the Gordian Knot to underscore just how intricate and entrenched the problem

has become, this book examines environmental and climatic challenges. The first section of the book

includes chapters dealing with the natural factors for the crisis, and the second section will encompass

chapters addressing human-made factors, such as political, economic, and social drivers. Each chapter

includes targeted policy recommendations grounded in current research.

Weaving together interdisciplinary research and analysis, the book offers actionable insights and

opportunities to address the manmade and environmental problems, furthering the food crisis in Africa

 today.
 Judith Irene Nagasha
is a Senior Lecturer at Kyambogo University in Uganda. Equipped with a PhD in gender and climate change, she is the lead collaborator for the translating science into policy and practice Agrifose 2030 project for young researchers in Africa, supported by the Swedish International Development Agency. Nagasha is spearheading the milk and fisheries value chain and marketing systems projects in Uganda. Her research focuses on the gender perspectives in food security, climate change, and indigenous knowledge.
 Abdul Karim Bangura
is the putative dean and senior mentor of the CODESRIA College of Mentors Institute. He has 5 PhDs in the following fields: development economics, political science, linguistics, computer science, and mathematics. Bangura is the innovator of more than a dozen theories and research methodologies.

A Twenty-First Century Gordian Knot

Socioeconomic Effects of the Food Crisis in Africa

Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing through Hawala Money Transfer Operators
investigates the historical, contemporary, and future orientations of the hawala system as it exists at the nexus of national security policy and practice, money laundering, and the financing of terrorism and criminal activity. It examines the emerging connections between criminal and terrorist organisations that aim to exploit this time-honoured system for their unlawful and violent intentions, states, and financial systems. The book offers a thorough examination of a topic that is frequently framed and seen as a major security threat on a local, national, and international scale. Inconsistent state regulations, inadequate international regulatory oversight, and misinformed policy all contribute to the complexity of the issue. It integrates empirical and substantive data and analyses with conceptual approaches to the hawala informal remittance system and its exploitation by criminal and terrorist actors.

Principles of Imperfect Organized Crime Prevention
, John Braithwaite offers the first global analysis of organized crime and its entanglements with state corruption, war crimes, and corporate crime, drawing on evidence from more than 50 countries. Through a distinctive empirical and normative lens, Braithwaite combines fine-grained analyses and illuminating insights with thought-provoking recommendations grounded in restorative justice, responsive regulation and a theory of assemblages. Essential reading for scholars of organized crime, this book is equally valuable for social scientists, policymakers, and practitioners seeking innovative strategies to loosen organized crime’s grip on societies and mitigate resulting harms.”

This open access book is a novel contribution to criminology, a radical conjuncture in the evolution of restorative justice and responsive regulatory theory. When Brazil’s President Lula returned to power, he backed an assemblage of movements that included environmentalists, Indigenous leaders who were river keepers, forest keepers, and regulators to reduce deforestation of the Amazon at the hands of assemblages of illegal loggers, wildlife smugglers, agro-business, and corrupt officials. This steeply slowed accelerating destruction of the Amazon ecosystem. Simple reforms like resourcing forest fire brigades and environmental crime prosecutors also helped. Braithwaite’s theoretical point is that disassembling harm-producing assemblages, and replacing them with harm-preventing assemblages, helps us see how big changes to the character of organized crime do occur to impact things that matter, like the Amazon.Organized crime does most harm when it criminalizes states or is taken over by presidents of states. Braithwaite diagnoses data from 6000 interviews and documentary sources from over 50 countries to discern the states where this is happening. Which are the societies where the power of organized crime to do this level of harm has been disassembled?John Braithwaite

This book traces the hidden architecture of urban dispossession. From the ghost neighbourhoods of Kensington and Chelsea to the offshore-controlled student housing in Sheffield, it reveals how cities are being retooled not as homes for their residents, but as nodes in a global network of value extraction.Wealth chain urbanism is the name for this system: six interlocking mechanisms that convert communities into commodities. McKenzie introduces the concept of "Digital Plantation", showing how algorithmic systems and surveillance infrastructure reproduce the colonial logics of extraction in the twenty-first-century city. But this book also documents the counter-infrastructure being built by tenant unions, community land trusts, and environmental justice campaigners who refuse to be erased. It issues a radical challenge: reform is a trap. The book envisions a strategy of dual power—tactical fights for survival alongside the construction of autonomous alternatives beyond capital's reach. This book traces the hidden architecture of urban dispossession. From the ghost neighbourhoods of Kensington and Chelsea to the archipelagos of offshore-controlled student housing in Sheffield, he reveals how cities are being retooled not as homes for their residents, but as nodes in a global network of value extraction.Wealth chain urbanism is the name for this system: six interlocking mechanisms (offshore opacity, institutional portfolio strategies, algorithmic platforms, securitisation, state facilitation, and racial capitalism) that convert communities into commodities. McKenzie introduces the concept of the "Digital Plantation", showing how algorithmic systems and surveillance infrastructure reproduce the colonial logics of extraction in the heart of the twenty-first-century city. But this is also a book about resistance. It documents the counter-infrastructure being built by tenant unions, community land trusts, and environmental justice campaigners who refuse to be erased. The Extractivist City

The material assembled in this volume offers a deeper insight into Walter Eucken's attitudes, thought, and actions during the darkest years of Germany's history: the period of National Socialism. Although Eucken, like his associates, destroyed potentially incriminating documents after the failed assassination attempt by Count Stauffenberg on Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944, the surviving texts mark key stages in a process that ultimately led this determined opponent of the Nazi regime - an opponent from the very beginning - into active resistance against Hitler.

What rendered Eucken immune to National Socialism from the outset was his philosophically grounded abhorrence of the dissolution of the free individual into the collective, as is inherent in all totalitarian, especially
 völkisch
(ethno-nationalist) ideologies. His systematic opposition to the Nazi regime began with refusal, open protest, and confrontation, particularly in response to the rapid
 Gleichschaltung
(forced coordination) of the universities, Martin Heidegger's rectorship, and the dismantling of academic freedom by the Nazis. Following Germany's invasion of Poland and several ultimately unsuccessful attempts to exert positive influence on the centers of power in Berlin, his resistance culminated in a - necessarily cautious - participation in conspiratorial activities as an advisor and confidant to the plotters.

The texts in this volume include notes and sketches of ideas, completed manuscripts that remained unpublished during his lifetime, published essays, a transcript of the lecture "Kampf der Wissenschaften," the record of a public discussion with a Nazi district leader, an expert report commissioned by the Reich Ministry of Economics on possible "sources of war financing" at the end of 1939, the academically significant essay "Wettbewerb als Grundprinzip der Wirtschaftsverfassung" prepared within the Academy for German Law, the chapter Eucken authored for the "Primer of Economics" initiated by Carl Goerdeler, as well as the appendix he co-authored to the memorandum "Wirtschafts- und Sozialordnung" of the Bonhoeffer Circle. This memorandum was prepared on behalf of the Confessing Church with a view to a future world church conference planned for the time after the war and the hoped-for overthrow of Hitler. Retrospective additions include, among other things, Eucken's "Notizen über die Haltung der rechts- und staatswissenschaftlichen Fakultät in Freiburg während der Herrschaft des Nationalsozialismus," his funeral oration for his prematurely deceased colleague Adolf Lampe, and drafts for an obituary of Hans Großmann-Doerth, with whom, together with Franz Böhm, Eucken had launched the research program of the Freiburg School: the development of a legal order conceived as an economic constitution, whose fundamental principle would be competition.

These materials make it possible to trace how Eucken, precisely through his confrontation with the rapidly escalating regime of injustice - with the enforced
 Gleichschaltung
, the increasing move toward a planned economy, the persecution of the Jews culminating in genocide, the other atrocities of the dictatorship, and the devastating Second World War - was able to sharpen his conception of a "humane and functional order," diametrically opposed to such a cataclysm. Eucken's theoretical design of a competitive order would later provide direction in the postwar years for the establishment of a social market economy in the young Federal Republic of Germany.

Sovereignty, Sacrifice, and Survival in Pakistan’s Necropolitical Order: Death’s Dominion
examines how sovereignty, sacrifice, and survival are experienced by individuals living under Pakistan’s militant and counter-militant regimes. Drawing on unstructured, in-depth interviews with sectarian militants and interrupted martyrdom operatives, it transforms first-person testimony into a critical analysis of necropolitics: the power to determine who may live, who must remain vulnerable, and who may be exposed to death. The book shows how selective protection, institutional failure, militant violence, and exceptional security practices can produce “death-worlds” governed through insecurity, abandonment, and differential exposure to violence.
Combining phenomenological inquiry with post-structural theory, the study reveals how state and non-state actors participate in overlapping moral and political economies of death, in which martyrdom, refusal, betrayal, and survival acquire political and sacred meanings. It advances the Pakistan-specific NEC Framework—National, Ethnosectarian, and Counterterror Necropolitics—to explain how competing forms of sovereignty intersect in shaping the national order. In dialogue with Michel Foucault, Giorgio Agamben, Achille Mbembe, and Judith Butler, the book also develops counter-necropolitics as a life-affirming project grounded in justice, accountability, rehabilitation, recognition, reparation, and counter-narratives.Munir Ahmad Zia Rao
