El autor propone que la compleja relación entre escritura y diferentes nociones de espacio (geográficas, culturales y políticas) impactó el desarrollo de la narrativa en Hispanoamérica. Colón se enfrentó al problema de representar un espacio asiático deseado y uno real desconocido, y terminó produciendo un espacio sacralizado. El naufragio geográfico de Fernández de Oviedo, con su certidumbre sobre las Hespérides, signó su representación de la flora y la fauna. En las cartas de Cortés se siente la tensión en la escritura sobre la identidad del espacio que conquistó y, aunque menos evidentes, aparecen también ciertos rasgos asiáticos en su escritura. Por otra parte, Cortés hace patente la figuración del espacio imperial español, que, tras su caída tres siglos más tarde, los escritores criollos se dedicarán a destruir con la producción de los espacios nacionales (Sarmiento, Gallegos, Rivera). Irónicamente, el proyecto poético-literario criollo vuelve al llamado que hiciera a los poetas Andrés Bello en las postrimerías de las independencias a inspirarse en el espacio 'abierto por Colón' para producir una literatura original y continental. Se examina así cómo Neruda, Carpentier y García Márquez producen un espacio poético y literario diferente para realizar el deseado reconocimiento global del proyecto literario y cultural criollo.

This volume offers the first comprehensive analysis of Yoko Tawada's German-language works and selected translations from Japanese, approached through the perspective of studies on difference. Drawing on interdisciplinary methodologies, including poststructuralism and posthumanism, it explores the dynamics of alterity - nomadic narratives, water, transformation, transgression and migration - as key motifs in Tawada's novels, essays, poetry, and plays. The dynamics of alterity permeate binary entanglements of the external and internal worlds, they do not reproduce the clash of thesis and antithesis or affirm negativity. They offer a way to step outside the limitations of dichotomous logic.

In the long twentieth century, negotiations of collective identities were characterised by an orientation towards the past rather than towards the future. For this phenomenon, Zygmunt Bauman has introduced the term »retrotopia«. Additionally, in the British context, retrotopian narratives often contained what has been termed »declinist« elements. Apart from temporal associations, the term »retrotopia« also points to the spatiality of cultural narratives. Covering a timespan from the late nineteenth to the early twenty-first century, the articles in this volume concentrate on retrotopian elements of Britishness as expressed in fiction, art and music. They further discuss the question of how these visions were emplaced. The volume is the result of a workshop conducted
during the summer term 2024 with students of the MA programme European Studies at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. It contains articles written by scholars at different stages in their careers and from different disciplines such as literary studies, history, cultural studies and art history.

It starts with policy priorities and opportunities for interlinking of different SDGs with sustainable industrial transformation. This book offers the first detailed study of women's legal status in early modern Liège, an otherwise largely overlooked case in European legal history. It follows women across the course of their lives, from birth to widowhood, to show how their legal position and control over property shifted over time, depending on their social status and place within the family. Drawing on a substantial body of wills and marriage contracts from notarial practice, it moves beyond traditional sources to show how the law actually worked in everyday practice, and who took part in its creation. By bringing all these elements together, this book offers a nuanced picture of how law and gender interacted in early modern Europe.

It evaluates the rise of the World Wide Web and the model of cybercrime, questions whether existing criminological thought offers relevance and efficacy in current circumstances, conditions and future predictions, and revisits the concept of Relative Deprivation and&nbsp;the underpinning social psychological and socio-political foundations of it. It argues that&nbsp;Relative Deprivation&nbsp;allied to post-industrial precarity provides a central platform for understanding crime and deviance in a hyper-connected and hyper-commercial neoliberal world.&nbsp;The book develops to explore current criminological and security conceptions of artificial intelligence, big data, crime and social control, as well as hacktivism, and how opportunities for crime have become ‘democratised’ and expanded through the Web. Drawing&nbsp;on empirical data, theoretical narratives and a review of the state of crime now and in a speculative near future, Hamerton and Webber discuss some potential directions for a new transdisciplinary critical criminology.&nbsp;
