Kleine Kommunen in ländlichen Räumen leiden zunehmend unter klammen Kassen. Die Beiträger*innen versammeln Perspektiven aus der Geographie, Finanz- und Politikwissenschaft, Soziologie sowie Sozialer Arbeit und fragen, was die Ursachen und Folgen der Austeritätspolitik sind und welche Visionen es für eine Verbesserung gibt. Joshua Graf blättert in der Geschichte des Kommunismus zurück - noch vor den 'Sonnenaufgang der Französischen Revolution' (Hegel) -, um Vorläufern wie Zeitgenossen von Marx und Engels nachzugehen. Bündig ordnet er bekanntere wie auch fast vergessene Pioniere radikaler Gesellschaftskritik in ihre spezifische Zeit ein. Deren pauschale Zurückweisung als ¿utopisch¿, so eine These des Bandes, wird ihnen nicht gerecht. Zumal sich jene Frage als roter Faden erweist, die auch für die ¿Klassiker¿ zentral sein wird: 'Wo es Privateigentum gibt', so Thomas Morus 1516, 'gibt es keine Gerechtigkeit.' Das 'arme Volk' sollte, erklärte Wilhelm Weitling 1842, nicht 'Personen den Krieg machen, sondern dem Eigentum'. Eine entsprechend lange Tradition hatte das Begehr eines Gemeinwesens, das den Widerspruch von Arm und Reich hinter sich lässt. Ein Gerrard Winstanley (1609-76) etwa verlangte eine 'Gemeinschaft der Güter', und der ¿Code de la Communauté¿ (Théodore Dézamy, 1842) verfügte, 'alle Reichtümer der Gemeinschaft' würden 'unaufhörlich und für immer allen zur Verfügung stehen.'

Dr. Hans-Peter Müller war bis zu seiner Emeritierung Professor für Allgemeine Soziologie an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und Mitherausgeber des Berliner Journals für Soziologie.
