Solalinde. Los migrantes del sur

Law and Criminology (R0)

This book analyses the impact of CAFTA-DR and European Free Trade Agreements on the industrial property system in Central America. While there is ample literature on bilateral and regional FTAs, it is often limited to the contractual obligations assumed by the participating countries. This book goes a step further and analyses how these obligations are implemented through national legislation, institutional changes and legal practice. To provide a deeper understanding of the effects of FTAs on national IP systems, the book addresses research questions that go beyond general publications on the topic. Research questions include: Is the combination of market access and IP rules in a bilateral FTA an effective and appropriate trade deal? How are the IP requirements under the FTAs implemented into the national statutory framework? Do the IP rules of FTAs sufficiently address institutional factors necessary for an effective IP system? Do they provide for an appropriate balance between minimum protection and flexibilities and support relevant IP policy objectives? The book covers the CAFTA-DR member states Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, reviewing the implementation of FTA obligations regarding patents, plant varieties, test data, trademarks, geographical indications, designs, genetic resources and traditional knowledge, enforcement and other areas. By looking at several countries, a broad range of IP rights and the practical implementation of FTA obligations, this book provides a broad range of information and insights.

Wild Ride

From the author of There Is a Rio Grande in Heaven, this piercing, genre-bending debut follows two families in alternative timelines of the Salvadoran civil war in a stunning exploration of displacement, the mechanisms of fate, the gravity of the past, and the endurance of love. Cambridge, USA 2018. Ana and Luis's relationship is on the rocks, despite their many similarities, including mothers that both fled El Salvador during the war. In her search for answers, Ana uses The Defractor, an experimental device that allows users to peek into alternate versions of their lives. What she sees leads her and Luis on a quest through Havana and San Salvador to uncover the family histories they are desperate to know, eager to learn if what might have been can fix what is. Havana, Cuba 1978. The Salvadoran war is brewing, and Neto, a young revolutionary with a knack for forging government papers, meets Rafael at a meeting for the People's Revolutionary Army. The two form an intense and forbidden love, shedding their fake names and revealing themselves to each other inside the covert world of their activism. When their work separates them, they begin to exchange weekly letters, but soon, as the devastating war rages on, forces beyond their control threaten to pull them apart forever.

a literary debut about family, history and timeless love

Die vergessenen Welten. Band 2

The fate of humanity and even life on earth is in serious doubt. We have a choice: either continue fighting over it, or learn to share this planet. This book presents a simple and immediately workable first step in that direction. Instead of deporting undocumented migrants, document them. As a novel, it also contains memorable characters, love, tragedy, beauty, and, perhaps, a little hope for the future.

Liderazgo y emprendimiento con perspectiva de género. Casos de éxito en México y Colombia

Winner of the Prix Médicis Étranger in France and the Premio de la Critica in Spain Conversation-starting and prize-winning international fiction: an extraordinary meditation on violence, conspiracy and the many complex afterlives of the Holocaust 'Audacious' Observer 'Provocative' Times Literary Supplement 'Extraordinary' Olivia Laing Eduardo and his brother have been living in the US for three years when their parents send them back to Guatemala for the holidays. It is 1984 and their native country, in the midst of a violent civil war, feels newly alien to them - their Spanish faltering, already half-forgotten. Their grandfather collects the boys from the airport and drives them into the mountains, depositing them at what they're told is a Jewish summer camp.At the camp, the children meet a counsellor called Samuel Blum: a handsome young man with sky-blue eyes who knows about all kinds of things. He shows them how to make a survival shelter out of branches and leaves, and how to kindle a fire using a glass bottle. He sings songs with them and plays games. But he also trains them to march in rank, and salute, and dive for cover. He teaches them the Hebrew words for 'grenade' and 'soldier' and 'silence'.On the fourth day, everything changes. The boys are shaken from their beds at dawn. A terrifying figure, uniformed in black, looms over them, and beyond him is the sound of screaming outside. Eduardo looks into the stranger's face - it is Samuel Blum, but his sky-blue eyes look different now. In his hand he carries a club. Crawling down his left arm is a huge tarantula.Thought-provoking and powerfully ambivalent, Tarantula is an extraordinary meditation on the many complex afterlives of the Holocaust. It is a novel about individual and collective inheritance, individual and collective violence; about memory, trauma, connection and estrangement. It asks what it means to be a Jew in the long wake of the twentieth century, and how the past lives on in the present.

The Rough Guide to Central America on a Budget: Travel Guide with eBook

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION “Sometimes, I don’t even know what we’re doing. What are we doing, Tomás?” “Surviving, I guess.” “But why? What’s at the end?” “What do I know, Antonio? What do I know...” The characters in this novel live in a slum in the Central-American city of San Salvador, El Salvador. They follow their own code and seem to live at the edge of everything, on another universe. So close and yet so far at the same time. It is a sordid world, where neither the author nor the protagonists let themselves be caught.
