Mark P. Linden examines how Jonathan Edwards and John Piper develop a theological understanding of the human longing for happiness, grounded in the intra-trinitarian joy of God. Special emphasis is placed on the soteriological basis of human happiness and the ethical call to seek joy in love for God and others.

This work was awarded the Barbara and Alfred Röver Foundation Prize for outstanding dissertations at the University of Kassel.
