Palgrave Studies of Marketing in Emerging Economies

This book explores the issue of sustainable consumption in the African context, filling a significant gap in literature. Relating specifically to SDG 12, ‘Responsible consumption and production,’ this two-volume edited collection argues that the core drivers of sustainable consumption in the African context are considerably different than in other regions. For example, studies show that developed countries tend to have a greater interest in sustainability compared to developing countries, and that Africa lags behind in adopting sustainable consumption practices. &nbsp;
 Offering a deeper understanding of this issue, authors explore how and why consumers make decisions, and what influences them towards sustainable behaviour, identifying the key drivers and challenges to sustainable behaviours. Volume I focuses on understanding the core issues and covers topics such as understanding consumer responses to green marketing strategies, the role of trust in sustainable consumption choices, and sustainable fashion, to name a few. This book investigates the high prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV) among African immigrants across the world, addressing unique cultural contexts, acculturative stress, and identity which shapes their experiences. The author examines how migration-related stress, cultural norms, and systemic challenges intersect to influence intimate partner violence dynamics uniquely within the African diaspora. The book utilizes three theoretical frameworks to investigate this question: Urie Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory; John Berry’s acculturation stress theory; and Kimberlé Crenshaw’s intersectionality theory. This book situates the experiences of this unique immigrant population in the literature on IPV. It also provides global context by situating African diaspora experiences within broader discussions of intimate partner violence across immigrant populations. The author highlights the resilience and coping mechanisms of African IPV survivors and offers culturally sensitive strategies for prevention and intervention pathways to empowerment and healing.

This book builds on the scholarship by contributing a critical analysis of the shortfalls of LGBTQ+ laws in Africa and the areas of progress and possible paths forward. It outlines the state of LGBTQ+ rights across Africa and discusses the notion of queering African law. It explores regional approaches towards the protection of LGBTQ+ rights within Africa and the important role of activism in challenging anti LGBTQ+ laws notably through litigation, their successes, challenges and limitations. It discusses the tensions between cultural, historical and other factors that on one hand challenge progress but which on the other hand may also be avenues for advancing rights. In line with the argument of queer theory as relevant in Africa, the chapters draw on queer legal theory which allows for critical analysis that aims to advance “a reformation of legal discourse” on LGBTQ+ rights. This focus is timely given the introduction of harsher anti-homosexuality laws in some African countries. Through multdisciplinary contributions, it offers readers a nuanced analysis of the challenges towards truly queering African law and the possibilities for doing so.&nbsp;Adam D. Dubin
 is Assistant Professor of Law at Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Spain, where he teaches subjects related to human rights, SOGI comparative law, development and Sub Saharan Africa.

 dem
 Symbol eines dekolonisierten afrikanischen Selbstbewusstseins.
 
 Dieser von Irene Albers herausgegebene Band versammelt Text- und Bilddokumente zur Provenienz und Bedeutungsvielfalt des Kanaga-Zeichens. Fasziniert von den Masken der Dogon pausten Marcel Griaule und Michel Leiris 1931&nbsp;die farbigen Wandzeichen in verschiedenen Höhlen in der Nähe von Bandiagara ab und versuchten, sie zu dechiffrieren. Die Graffiti fanden sich dann in einer der Mission Dakar-Djibouti gewidmeten Ausgabe der Zeitschrift&nbsp;
 Minotaure
 , der Axel Matthes später sein Verlagssignet entnahm. Auch andere wussten die emblematische Kraft des Zeichens zu nutzen: 1947 wählte Alioune Diop aus der gleichen Zeitschrift ein ähnliches Graffiti als Logo für den Verlag Présence africaine. Sylvie Kandé und Éric Jolly geben Einblicke in die globale Zirkulation des Zeichens, während der Künstler Mansour Ciss Kanakassy (Berlin/Dakar) sich den Berliner Kanagas widmet.
