Rethinking Global Value Chains for Resilience in a Turbulent World

An Actor-Centric Perspective

This book explores how Global Value Chains can be resilient in a world marked by disruptions, from pandemics to geopolitical tensions and climate shocks. By bringing together international business and supply chain management perspectives, the book directly engages with and seeks to advance debates on the processual nature of resilience, the multidimensionality of GVCs, and the interplay between governance, geography, and network relationships. Moreover, the book clarifies the conceptual boundaries between resilience and related constructs such as robustness, flexibility, agility, and adaptability. Supported by in-depth case studies from oil & gas, automotive, and semiconductor sectors, the book offers a dedicated definition, actionable insights, and a comprehensive framework for GVC resilience.
