Public Banks and Gender Equality

Despite decades of gender equality policies, women, girls, and gender diverse people are still the most negatively impacted by the climate crisis and food and housing insecurity. So where will the financing for change come from? This edited collection demonstrates that public banks hold untapped potential to advance a gender-transformative development agenda.

Offering case studies from around the world, it examines how and to what extent national and regional public banks are addressing structural inequalities through their governance, mandates, and lending practices. Focusing on institutions with strong social development goals, the book highlights the promising practices that are already driving positive change.
