Die Patentansprüche bestimmen den Schutzumfang eines Patents. Die Patentansprüche stellen daher den wichtigsten Teil eines Patents dar. Der Formulierung der Patentansprüche gebührt dabei die größte Aufmerksamkeit, denn eine mangelnde Formulierung kann den möglichen Schutzumfang erheblich mindern und Fehler bei der Anspruchsformulierung können eventuell nicht mehr korrigiert werden.  Dr. Thomas Heinz Meitinger 
 
 ist deutscher und europäischer Patentanwalt. Er ist Geschäftsführer der Meitinger Patentanwalts GmbH. Die Meitinger Patentanwalts GmbH ist eine mittelständische Patentanwaltskanzlei in München. Nach einem Studium der Elektrotechnik in Karlsruhe arbeitete er zunächst als Entwicklungsingenieur. Spätere Stationen waren Tätigkeiten als Produktionsleiter und technischer Leiter in mittelständischen Unternehmen. Dr. Meitinger veröffentlicht regelmäßig wissenschaftliche Artikel und schreibt Fachbücher zum gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und zu technischen Themen.
