«Ich stelle mir jetzt vor, dass . . . ich in die Schweiz gehe und alles mitnehme», schreibt Anne Frank im Oktober 1942 in ihr Tagebuch. Rund um das Versteck der Familie Frank in einem Amsterdamer Hinterhaus verschärfen sich die Razzien gegen Jüdinnen und Juden. Die 12-jährige Anne sehnt sich danach, nach Basel zu fliehen, wo ihre Tante Leni Elias-Frank mit ihrer Familie und ihre Grossmutter Alice Frank leben. So weit sollte es nicht mehr kommen. 
Basel war seit 1931 Emigrations- und Zufluchtsort der Familie Elias, später von Otto Frank. In Basel besuchten sich die Familien, die Stadt blieb nach dem Ausbruch des 2. Weltkriegs Ausgangspunkt für Briefwechsel und wurde zum zentralen Ort für die Publikation des berühmten Tagebuchs von Anne Frank. Nach dem Krieg zog Otto Frank als einziger Überlebender in die Schweiz, wo er den Rest seines Lebens in Birsfelden bei Basel verbrachte. 
Basel spielt eine wichtige Rolle in der Geschichte der Familie Frank und Elias. Ihre Spuren reichen fast 100 Jahre zurück und können noch heute erkundet und besichtigt werden: vom Wohnhaus der Familie an der Herbstgasse über den Anne-Frank-Platz in Birsfelden bis hin zum Friedhof, auf dem Otto Frank begraben wurde. Anhand von historischen Fotografien, Auszügen aus dem Tagebuch von Anne Frank, Briefen der Familie und anderen persönlichen Dokumenten beschreibt dieses Buch rund 30 Basler Orte, welche die Geschichte der Familie Frank und Elias lebendig werden lassen.

Taking the period from the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of the Turkish Republic in 1923 to the present day, this book examines Turkey's political trajectory, its economic developments and downturns and its positioning in the international arena. Breaking away from the Cold War paradigm and its focus on military coups and international security as well as approaches to Turkey which over emphasise the Ottoman past, this book also engages with cultural and social aspects of the period. Following a clear chronology, the book charts the rise of the Turkish nation-state, Turkey in the Second World War, the beginning of multi-party politics, the political plurality of the 1960s, the upheavals of the 1970s, the neo-liberal politics of the 1980s, the crumbling of the 1990s and the religious politics and presidentialism of the 2000s. Each period is divided into three sections and each chapter is accompanied by boxes inserted into the text which provide more extensive information on one particular aspect, such as cinema, political satire and social media. The book takes readers through the period providing both a clear chronological structure and an understanding of each period both from the perspective of its political and economic development and its cultural and social concerns.

Out of the Lab, into the Streets tells the story of how academic workers built the largest strike in the history of American higher education and set a new standard of militancy in one of the fastest growing sectors of the labor movement. In doing so, these workers also taught organizers everywhere lessons about the effectiveness of collective power cemented through worker-to-worker organizing, militant escalation strategies, and cross-union solidarity.
On November 14, 2022, academic workers of the University of California began a strike that brought workers out of the lab and into the streets for six weeks to fight for more equitable working conditions. The strike was a point of arrival and a process at the same time. It was the hard-fought achievement of a short- and long-term history of union organizing and a learning practice for workers across campuses, disciplines, job classifications, political affiliations, and identities. This book documents the everyday and on-the-ground making of union organizing and power building.
The nine workers who gave lengthy testimonies for this project challenge preconceptions about the advantages and difficulties of organizing in higher education. They make insightful analyses of how being active union members transformed them personally and reshaped their approach to science and education.
Union organizers and other activists will find lessons and reflections on core topics for the labor movement: how to build a worker-led union, the practical meaning of democracy during mass action, dissent and unity amongst workers, and how to measure a fight's success. Within these nuanced accounts of militant organizing, everyone will find inspiration to keep collective power alive and keep fighting for a better future.
