Corruption and anti-corruption have long been central public concerns in China, yet the organizational mechanisms through which corruption and anti-corruption operate remain poorly understood. This book takes bribery-offering by unit as its analytical entry point and combines a systematic analysis of 3,886 publicly released court records with in-depth interviews with judges, prosecutors, disciplinary and supervisory officials, and lawyers.Focusing on visible court records, the book shows how corruption is produced and normalized at the organizational level, moving beyond explanations that reduce bribery to individual moral failure or market exchange. It introduces the perspective of “invisible corruption” to explore why certain bribery practices never enter judicial proceedings. By reconstructing the cognitive frameworks and professional reasoning of legal practitioners, it analyzes how organizational bribery is understood, categorized, and processed in judicial practice, and how legal decision-making is shaped by institutional constraints, political pressures, and organizational contexts. Situated at the intersection of sociology of law, organizational studies, and corruption research, this book offers new empirical and theoretical insights into China’s anti-corruption system.&nbsp;About the Author Ting Wang

Es zeigt, warum klassische Instrumente wie NATO-Beistandsmechanismen, UNO-Verfahren oder internationale Rechtsmittel in einem derartigen Konflikt an ihre Grenzen stoßen - und welche alternativen Reaktionsformen realistisch zur Verfügung stehen, wenn Recht und Macht auseinanderdriften.
Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei weniger die militärische Dimension als die normative Sprengkraft des Szenarios. Der Bruch von Souveränität, territorialer Integrität und Gewaltverbot durch einen Systemträger selbst stellt die Glaubwürdigkeit der gesamten Nachkriegsordnung infrage. Das Buch macht deutlich, wie schnell sich verbindliche Regeln in bloße politische Optionen verwandeln können, wenn Machtasymmetrien ungebremst wirken.
Dieses Werk versteht sich als intellektuelle Stressprobe für das bestehende System - und als Einladung, die Stabilität internationaler Ordnung neu zu denken, bevor sie unter realem Druck zerbricht.

Palgrave Studies in Prisons and Penology

Prison building has moved from the margins to the mainstream of our penal politics. In recent years the UK Government has invested billions in new prison building and the main political parties are currently locked into a penal arms race over who can, and who will, build the most additional prison places in England and Wales. Prison building is now widely lauded as the definitive policy solution to the current prisons crisis and yet, this remains an elusive sphere of penal policymaking. Academic research remains in its infancy, and we still know very little about how these large investment decisions are made, by whom and for what reasons.
In seeking to shine a light on this subterranean and largely closed sphere of contemporary penal policymaking, this book presents the first systematic study of prison building programmes in England and Wales since the mid-1990’s punitive turn. Drawing upon extensive archival research, 28 exploratory qualitative interviews, publicly recorded data, historic satellite imagery and other mapping techniques this book has three main aims: (1) to provide an authoritative historical account of prison building activity in England and Wales since the mid-1990s punitive turn, (2) to explain why successive governments have chosen to invest in new prison building programmes and (3) to reflect upon how the prisons we build - functionally, architecturally, geographically – continue to shape our politics long after they have been constructed.
Thomas Guiney&nbsp;is Assistant&nbsp;Professor of Criminology in the School of Sociology and Social Policy&nbsp;at University of Nottingham, UK. Tom has published widely on the politics of punishment and recently published an edited collection&nbsp;Parole Futures: Rationalities, Institutions and Practices&nbsp;with Hart Bloomsbury (Oñati International Series in Law and Society). Tom sits on the Editorial Board of the&nbsp;British Journal of Criminology and is a regular contributor to public debates on criminal justice.

The NGO set out to address issues of livelihood and poverty alleviation in slums. Adopting a path that was sustainable and did not depend upon grants, the journey is a fascinating account of learnings in organizational evolution and its impact on the lives of poor women.The book is divided into two parts. The first part has three chapters charting the journey of Annapurna Pariwar based on interviews with Medha Tai, the founder of Annapurna Pariwar.
