Translation, Interpreting and Social Justice in a Globalised World

Offers unique insights into the justice system, its power and the abuses that can happen to marginalised people when they intersect with the justice system. This book explores how minority language users experience access to justice and the right to a fair trial when they use their language in the criminal justice system. It investigates the lived experiences of Irish speakers and deaf Irish Sign Language users who have directly interacted with the criminal justice system. Treating identity as both internally constructed and externally imposed, it focuses on the issues raised when internally constructed identities are misunderstood, oversimplified and misused by the majority or the authority. The two case studies presented here investigate three layers of access to justice: procedural access, substantive access and symbolic access. This lens reveals the areas where, in spite of legal protections to safeguard fairness, minority language users still experience unequal treatment. The book provides a nuanced understanding of the experiences of minority language users and will be of interest to researchers in translation and interpreting, sociolinguistics and human rights law.

This book concerns a unique approach of assessing the high increasing rates of adherence to ESG principles through the perspective of an interdisciplinary, corporate governance approach. As regulatory authorities and related authorities globally demand adherence and a genuine adoption of a standardised understanding and implementation of ESG principles, new methods of assessment are being agreed. Mehr als 30 Jahre lang wurde Leasing durch den Standard IAS 17 geregelt. IAS 17 unterschied dabei vor allem nach Operating-Leasing und Finanzierungsleasing. Dabei wurde beim Leasingnehmer ein Operating-Leasing bilanzneutral, das heißt ohne Auswirkungen auf die Bilanz dargestellt. Über verschiedene Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten ergab sich damit für den Bilanzierenden durchaus die Möglichkeit, Leasing-Verhältnisse so zu gestalten, dass sie nicht in die Bilanz aufgenommen werden mussten. Als Reaktion auf die Kritik an diesen Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten hat der IASB bereits im Jahr 2006 eine Reform der Leasingbilanzierung angestoßen. Das Ergebnis ist der 2016 veröffentlichte IFRS 16. Dieser Standard unterscheidet nicht mehr zwischen Operating-Leasing und Finanzierungsleasing. Stattdessen wird für alle Leasingverhältnisse ein Nutzungsrecht und eine entsprechende Verbindlichkeit erfasst. IFRS 16 ist verpflichtend auf Jahresabschlüsse für Geschäftsjahre anzuwenden, die nach 31.12.2018 beginnen. Die Reform der Leasingbilanzierung wird eine erhebliche Herausforderung für nach IFRS bilanzierende Unternehmen darstellen. Dieses Buch bereitet die Bilanzierenden auf die anstehende Standardänderung optimal vor und bietet sichere Unterstützung bei der Umsetzung der neuen Normen. Hierfür werden die bilanzrechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen anhand von Abbildungen, Übersichten und Beispielen veranschaulicht und konkrete Handlungsempfehlungen gegeben, die dem Bilanzersteller helfen, die zum Teil komplexen Regelungen im Einzelfall in der Praxis umzusetzen. Besonderes Augenmerk wird aber auch auf ausgewählte Spezialthemen (zum Beispiel Sale-and-lease-back-Transaktionen, Subleases, et cetera) und Schnittstellenthemen gelegt. Ein Herzstück des Buches ist die Ableitung und Darstellung eines Konzepts für die Aufbau- und Ablauforganisation eines Prozesses zur Erfassung von Leasingverträgen nach dem neuen IFRS. Hierbei stehen für den Bilanzierungserfolg zentrale Themen wie die Organisation der Datengewinnung und die Analyse des Vertragsportfolios im Vordergrund. Unterstützende Checklisten erhöhen die Praxistauglichkeit noch zusätzlich.

An empirical analysis and new theoretical framework for understanding economic expectations and decision-making in different historical settings. Expectations play a crucial role in shaping economic behavior. But how are expectations actually formed, and how has this changed over time? The financial crisis of 2007–08 cast doubt on traditional theories of expectation formation, particularly the rational expectations framework. In Contingent Expectations, Alexander Nützenadel and Jochen Streb examine the ways that past experiences influence the economic expectations and decision-making of households, investors, and policymakers through history, and offer an alternative perspective. Combining a comprehensive empirical analysis of expectation formation from the eighteenth century to the present day with an assessment of the relevant economic theory, Nützenadel and Streb present a new theoretical framework, contingent expectations, for understanding economic expectation. Nützenadel and Streb show how economic actors developed new forecasting methods in response to rising uncertainty brought on by the Industrial Revolution, the expansion of global trade, financial market integration, and environmental crises. Tracing the evolution of economic theories on expectations, they find that when growing market volatility made forecasting more complex, economic agents often adapted with remarkable flexibility to changing circumstances.
