'False Confessions in Police Interrogations. An Interdisciplinary Survey on the Prevalence and Causes of False Confessions in Germany': The phenomenon of false confessions in police interrogations in Germany was studied in two nationwide surveys of police officers and inmates. Over 20% of the inmates stated that they had made a false confession at least once, and about 16% of the police officers reported having taken one. Furthermore, various percentage frequencies of false confessions could be calculated. The study showed that factors such as young age or health impairments can increase the risk of false confessions. In addition, insights were gained into false confessions in the correctional system.
